Visa for internship in Brazil

Post new topic

Hello,

I live in Baku, Azerbaijan.
I am planning to pass a paid internship in Brazil. For this I need Student Visa VITEM IV.

I've been denied for visa in December 2012. I was student at an ordinary course (which did not consider any diploma at the end of course) in local university, and this was not considered by the Embassy as 'regular studentship', so I was not eligible for this visa. Even though my other documents (including documents notarised in Brazil) were OK. Requirement states that the applicant must be a regular student at the moment of application.

I've applied for university master entrance exams. I've passed. Now I'm master student in local university. While I was passing all the procedure of becoming master student (which took 6 months) I contacted the Embassy and their answer was: "Before applying for visa, show us your university/studentship documents, we'll review them and after our positive answer you are welcome to apply for student visa. Otherwise, if you apply for visa without our review and you have any problem with your documents, you will receive 'immigration attempt' stamp on your passport. Your name will be in our system for a long time. Also, if you apply for visa after studying one semester and bring us your attendance records, you'll receive your visa without any problem."

I can't explain them that no university in Azerbaijan provides paper about attendance records. Unfortunately in Azerbaijan one can get any paper with contacts (maybe bribes), but this is not an option for me.

So, I did as they said. 2 weeks ago I passed them references from university and local state admission committee which certify my acceptance to the university and my full-time master studentship.

It's been 2 weeks that I didn't get any answer from Embassy. I've called them twice and answer was: "We'll call you back as soon as we review your documents."

My question is 'Is it normal?'
If I get my invitation letter and all other necessary documents from Brazil before the Embassy answers anything, should I apply for visa?
My police clearance was issued at the beginning of August. It takes a month to legalise the document and it's required document. Can I apply with it by the of September?

thanks in advance.

Hello Aliismayilov,

Yes, it's normal, ALL Brazilians including the people that work in Consulates do things on their own time schedule, they will do it when THEY want to do it. You have to be patient with Brazilians this is just their way of doing things and nobody is going to change them.

Once legalized your police certificate will remain valid, don't worry.

You can't do any kind of paid work with a VITEM - IV Student Visa, if your internship is paid then you must have a VITEM - V Work Visa, otherwise you are subject to a fine and removal from the country.

No, I can and it is legal :) There is internship category of student visa.

But the salary is minimal and suffices for living.

I'll wait more for their answer.

James

Thanks for sharing that important information with me because the legislation that I was looking at makes no mention of it. It's good to know.
