A few games of pool and beers in HCMC

Post new topic

steveinsaigon

Hi all,

I've recently arrived in HCMC to live here for a while and I'd be up for a few games of pool and some beers if anyone's interested.

Cheers,

Steve

p.s - I mean 'ordinary' pool, nothing else!

A group of Expats play Pool in BMV and Snap Cafe in District 2 (I've posted similar on one of your other posts) although Red Bar near Bitexco also has a decent table.

The great thing about the Snap Cafe Thursday Night Tournament is that it is handicapped so all skill levels can play and compete. It's been a good mix so far and a great social night as well.

As in previous post - don't hesitate to contact me if you are interested in a game.

If the rain stays away, I'll be in Angels from around 6pm-8pm tonight.

Hi laidbackfreak,

Sorry - wasn't able to make it on the 28th but let me know when you're next free,

Cheers,

Steve

Kat, are you talking about swimming in a pool, or billiards (bida)?

This thread is about playing billiards (bida).

It's called "pool" in the USA.  You may see billiards on a sign but I don't think I've ever heard it spoken. A swimming pool on an 18th floor, maybe in Manhattan or LA.

Chris, most of the 5 star hotels (and many lesser hotels) in district 1, HCMC, have their swimming pools on the rooftop. Renaissance Hotel has a very nice pool with outdoor bar on the roof.

Ok, I'm crap at pool but wouldn't mind a game!

Just moved here yesterday and stay for ca 3-6 months so would be grand to get to know some people :)

In which District are you living KJ?

Kj_skye

This week at the Moevenpick hotel in Phu Nhuan District (working in Tân Bình District).

Looking at apartments later this week so will see where I end up :)

Jade Von Memeth

Hello,

I love playing pool and would love to join you guys!

Drop me a message if you want to play a game!

I heard it spoken as Bi  Da in 1968. And that's what my wife's nephews called it in Nha Trang on our last trip. And they had both pocketed and non-pocketed tables, the latter being what we called billiards in the States back when T.R. was still in the White House ;-)

A nice group of Expats are playing at Snap Café near Thao Dien,  District 2 on Thursday evening if you would like to play. Contact me or Snap Café direct to let them know and we'll get you put on the list.

Hi Jade,

I plan to drop into Snap Café to play, but I also know a few places in D1, so if you fancy a game and a beer or two, let me know - I'll be free after TET.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi KJ, I'm also a bit crap - I get better after 2-3 beers, then deteriorate from there.  I'd be happy to catch up for a game after TET if you're free?  Cheers, Steve

Just an update for all you Pool players who would like to play some regular social Pool as part of a bar team.

After Tet a weekly league will be set up (starting 12th/13th February) I will let you know whether it will be a regular Wednesday or Thursday night here soon.

8 bars have committed to enter teams but most are still looking for additional players. So if you fancy playing, either contact me and I will put you in touch with a bar or contact the bars direct. The bars involved are:

Drunken Duck - D1
Red Bar - D1
Bar 5 - D1
Game On - D1
Harry Casuals - D7/PMH
Snap Café - D2
Buddha Bar - D2
BMV - D2
Evita - D2

It promises to be a great social evening where we can all meet new friends, have a few beers and play some semi-competitive pool.

I hope to hear from some of you very soon

I had omitted Game On - D1 as one of the bars committed to entering a team. Please contact Troy, the manager, if you would like to join their team.
