Stokes Valley..??

Hope to move to Wellington in next year. Can anyone please advice聽 on selecting Stokes Valley to live. Have 3 kids, 3,9 and 11 years.

Stokes Valley is run-down and has a poor reputation. It also has a high deprivation index.

Stokes Valley is the dark red area (most deprived) on the map in the Hutt valley.

That maps pretty old - and hard to get a good close-up of!! I think generally The Hutt and its surroundings have a bad reputation in comparison to Wellington City, but you honestly can't know how an area feels until you're there.

Reputations are manufactured and driven by special interests (real estate companies). Most areas in the Wellington region are overpriced and run-down, with scattered small pockets of affluence and new development. Stokes Valley isn't one of them.

The deprivation index hasn't been recalculated or updated since 2006. Since the National party came to power, virtually all socioeconomic research and reporting have been stopped, e.g., child poverty.
