Sam's Bar and Grill in Puerto Plata city center

Is Sam's Bar and Grill/Hotel Castilla still open or not? We were in PUerto Plata a week ago and read about the place in the Rough Guide. I see there is still much about it on the internet, but a Dominican we ran into there said it had closed because the owner died. He walked us to another restaurant on the malecon. Were we hustled? Is it still open?

also, any recommendations for hotels near the malecon that aren't too noisy?

That closed some time ago.聽 The owner passed away and then it was taken over by someone else but it was never the same.聽 It closed.

Yes closed. Used to be a nice place for breakfast while I was having my car serviced in the area.
