how is life in the netherlands? i have always thought of living there. I have visited Holland as a tourist but i have never lived there.

SVO2008

Hi,

Life in Holland is not as smooth as I thought before, especially when my hubby passed away.

Now, I think they are more racist than before, and when they see me having black hair, they gonna start talking about me and started yelling like, Hey, Stranger ! or in Dutch Allochtoon.

In now they require that you must be able to speak Dutch if you want to come / live in here. I have done that in 2004 and finished in 2005. But then weird thing came, they sent me a letter asking me to do that again, which is crazy !.  I don't want to do that again because I have passed in all subjects, unless someone who doesn't like me reported / saying something bad about me.

Many weird things happening to me since my husband passed away, so that's why I no longer feel at peace nor at home in here, feeling rejected and not being welcomed here in this strange and weird country.

That's why I don't have any interest in living any longer here, and decided to return back to Indonesia. They are arrogant but maybe not if you are an American. They like American but not people from other countries, especially from Asia.

So that's why if I happen to marry again, I will not marry a Dutch any longer. It's enough for me being ridiculed and rejected by the people here.

In Christ,

Suzana

Seems you feeling bad and negative. Whats good about the Netherlands? In every country there will be people who like or dislike another country. When i was in Miami, USa i met many adults online from the netherlands who disliked USA and also i met many who liked it.

SVO2008

Hi,

I feel bad and negative because they always pick me as someone whom they can mock at !

They like to say Allochtoon and they
always keep talking if I pass through
them and think negative towards people
coming from another countries, especially
from Indonesia !

I no longer have any interest to stay
any longer here, a weird and strange
country. Many strange and weird things
happening to me since last year...

If I ever have a chance to remarry, I
surely won't marry a Dutch any longer...!
Once is enough for me...

so People in Indonesia will always treat you better? think about it like this> if i give you a gift and you do not accept my gift, who owns the gift? well if they say something bad to you and you do not accept it by getting upset then the bad they say they keep.

SVO2008

Hi John,

I think it depends on the persons I meet with. But so far I think they are more friendly than most of the Dutch people that I know here.

What is most important is that we don't do things that annoy the other parties and that we show respect and understanding towards one another.

I never bother anyone but it seems the people here are picking me to become a target of their mocking / yelling / make fun of me which I really don't like !

I see them as racist !

hi Suzan
Welcome home then...
Am not an american but reading what you wrote that does concern me somehow... Is it really like that what happen out there in Netherland? Its makes me scared to go there..I never been there, but would like to visit if able, someday.  I know some people from Holland and they seems to be nice and friendly to mostly Indonesian.  And they know much about our food etc, they said lots of indo people living in Netherland.
Well, I surely hope that the bad people, is only a very few of them, bad people, harsly racist are everywhere, but I am sure its not represent all of the people there...
Anyway.. Think wherever you go, home is always know whats best for you :)
I lived in usa before and the people there are just ordinary, most are very friendly to me, even people who dont come from usa.  Really had a good time socializing with friends there.

So anyway, Welcome to Indonesia again... :)

SVO2008

Hi Miss ... ,

Thank you for your email this morning.
I am glad to read your email and sharing a bit about your experience living in the States.

I think that the Americans are more friendly than the Dutch people. I know that not all Dutch people are racists, but the people where I live seems to be arrogant, and thinking highly of themselves. I guess, some are just jealous of me. Because whenever I cross passing them, they would say, Allochtoon meaning Stranger, and sometimes they even talk about me.

Strangely, this happenening to me since last year. Strange and weird things also happening to me since last year caused
by those who maybe don't like me just because I am an Indonesian. I think the Dutch won't say Allochtoon to American people. They don't describe Americans as Allochtoon, except people coming from Asia or color people.

You may be right, those tourists from Holland are friendly, but in small city where I live, they will say / point at you and say, Hey, Allochtoon, etc. This I hear almost daily. I am tired listening to their yelling / mocking...

That's why I don't feel that I am being welcomed living in Holland, so it's better returning back to Indonesia.

They like Indonesian food, but on the other hand they don't welcome me as someone coming from Indonesia, but maybe if I were an American, they will gladly welcome me...

It's an ironic because my husband was a Dutch and he never treated me that way, like those who are racists !.

Have a nice weekend and take care.
What's your name anyway ?

Best Regards,

Suzana

Hello Suzana, theres that important word "I think". I think and so i somewhat recreate what i think in order to be right. I can also choose to think that there are nice people and if i think that i will focus on finding the nice people. In Hong Kong and Singapore i was called many times Gwielo in my face. Many would say it over and over while i was walking back to home from work.I chose not to get upset i smiles and say yes and then i ask them if they are gwielo or a foreiner and they become very surprised.

Suzana,

I'm sorry about the passing of your husband and have since made you feel unwelcome living in Holland. I've visited it a coupe of times, as tourist, which is probably totally a whole lot of different thing. I never got such treatment as you described despite my dark hair and eyes. I just wish you a much much better life back home here in Indonesia.

Cheers

SVO2008

Hi Dee Dee,

Thank you for your sympathy towards what's happening to me since the passing of my husband. And also for welcoming me
for my return back to Indonesia.

You live in the Philippines. I think it's not much different between Indonesia and the Philippines, right ? Can you speak Tagalog ?

Well as a tourist, you might hear that word being spoken by the Dutch, especially in Amsterdam and other big cities.

But in small city like where I live, the people seem to pay attention to me, and will say something about me and never forget to say, Allochtone / stranger. But strangely when the Turks / or the Marroccans passing they never say a word, nor calling them Allochtone, that's strange. These two countries
have the biggest population in here, compared to the Indonesian people.

I don't think I will return back here, a strange and weird country.

Have a nice day to you...

Best Regards,

   Suzana

Naah, I just stayed in the Philippines for a couple of months. Now I'm all back home here in Jakarta.

Right, I got you. Only wish things had been a lot easier for you back then, but I believe everything happens for a good reason. Including your homecoming now :)

God bless.

SVO2008

Hi Dee Dee,

Thank you for your email again.
I see so you are now back again to
Jakarta. I thought you live in the
Philippines.

Yes, I agree with you that everything
that happens has a good reason, and
I believe that God must have other
reason that according to His will is
much better than our own thinking.

Welcome back to Jakarta then, Dee Dee
and I will get back there this year
too.

Anyway, I wish that you'll have a
nice day and God bless you too.

Best Regards,

Hi I'm Chinese Indonesian too.
Do you think that people here treat us better?Remember what happened in 1998?:| They all treat us like we're strangers too.If I were you,I'd like to live in Holland. At least they won't treat you as bad as what happened in 1998. :D No offense :D

SVO2008

Hi,

Thanks for your response. The reason
I decided to move out is because there
are many strange things happening to
me and that they people like to talk
about me.

If they talk about you daily whenever
you pass their houses / themselves,
how would you feel ?

So many weird things...I cannot tell
you. I know that Indonesia is no
better than Holland. But maybe this
is where God wants me to take the
step.

God bless you....

Hello Suzana, How do you know what these people are saying when you walk by them? How do you know if its good or bad? Why not ask them politely? JW

SVO2008

Hi John,

I understand Dutch because I also can speak and write in Dutch language.

So I know when they were talking about
me.

I just don't like to be called Allochtoon
or stranger all the time !

That's why I don't want to become a
Dutch citizen,...too much hurt and
pain in my heart...

tahojun

hey suzana

i feel sorry to hear what happened to you and i can understand. I'm French born Vietnamese. Honestly i feel the same in France at times, i can get called 'chinese chinese' or with some asian porn star names!! Hopefully it is not daily..and mostly by some stupid uneducated teenagers.
So yes it is not nice to hear that and i lived in asia for many years, it feels better there.

just choose where u think you can be happy...or at least happier!

Thao

JWilliamson

I get called gwielo Gwielo and i say yes yes and where are you from? Is my reply and ofcourse with a smile. JW

SVO2008

Hi Thao,

Thank you for your email this morning and for sharing your experience with me on how the locals treat us.

Well in here, when my husband was still alive, I never heard that word. Allochtoon / stranger being spoken as I pass their houses / walk passing  or in front of them.

But since the last two years until then, whenever I walk along with my dog, the surrounding people will start talking about me / calling me Allochtoon, and they begin to grumbling thinking that I get many benefits as a stranger here.

Not just the Dutch saying that but also those Turks / Marrocans who are born
here. Not just young people but also
children and old people. Somehow I feel
they are racists, reminds me how the
Jews people being treated long time
ago...

They won't talk to people like me,
because they think highly of themselves
or arrogant. Although not all like that
but mostly are like that. Only a few
people who show respect to people like
me / want to talk to me.

It's good that people living in the
same apartment aren't like those on
the other streets / areas, where they
seem to be jealous / showing prejudice
towards me.

That's why I'm thinking of returning
to Indonesia as I still have my sisters and brothers there. I no longer feel
enjoying myself living in this strange
and weird country. Many strange and
weird things happening to me since
last year.

So you are now in China for work ?
There is also International communities in Indonesia, many opportunities for doing business in Indonesia too. Many
International restaurants too including Vietnamese restaurants.

I feel so bored with that word being spoken almost daily. If I am not a Christian, maybe I would have lost my temper already to those stupid, uneducated people...

Have a nice day and may God bless you, Thao...

Suzana
