Co-Op in Kuwait

Post new topic

I went by the Co-Op in Fintas to check it out and it looked like an abandoned building.  I have heard that the Co-Ops have really good prices in order to cause competition for Lu-Lus and Sultan Center but are there nice ones around the Fintas to Mangaf part of town?  I live in Abu Hasaniya and don't want to have to go to far to one if I can help it.  I have seen some that are really nice that have restaurants and frozen yogurt places attached to them.

Hey Socal,

I am in FIntas and you are right, the Fintas co-op looks like a site from Fallout 3. I am not sure but I think there is some construction work going on in there so maybe it will be resurrected as something remotely usable.
The Co-Ops up north are much nicer, I have been in Jabriya and Andalous and those look like starports compared to what we have here. There is one in Mubarak Al Kabeer, but I haven't been there, however I did visit the Co-Op in Fahaheel the other day and at least it is well stocked. If you learn anything useful please share. :)

if a better bargain is what you are looking for, then i suggest you hit up the police/army co-ops; one is located on the fourth ring road, the other is somewhere close to 360. their prices are cheaper for certain items (And even cheaper for locals). the rest of the co-ops (jami'iyas in arabic) are all over hawally and jabriya (i count at least 5 or so in Hawally), i wouldnt applaud them on their prices tho, or selection.

in the end, you cant beat the wholesaler :)

Oh, I didn't know those were open to the general public.

And let's not forget Friday Market, you can get some great deals there depending on what you are looking for. :)

The Fintas co-op is not cheaper than Lu&Lu, I would suggest exiting on 208 and shopping at Lu&Lu as they have a lot more Western products than other stores.

Lu-Lu's is where I have normally been shopping.  I like all the produce they have there.

I've never seen a good one in Fintas. However, there is a nice big-box version of the Sultan Center. The produce isn't the best but they have lots of American brands you might be familiar with. For produce, I've had luck at small Filipino grocery stores. Sorry not to be more help.

co-ops are good grocery places for day to day usage
price are average (low if you have the return box signed)

but for diffrent items, i do diffrent grocery, for example
for meat - coops or burchet shops
fish - local fish marker (one is in City Mall in Salmiya
cleaners - National Guards Coop (4th ring road)
veggies & fruits - Lulu Center or local veg stores ( part of coops) or in Mubarakeya in Kuwait city

just a hint, in my local coop (yarmok Area) - Monday is a Low Price day on Veg & Fruits (differs from one coop to another)

sultan is okay for american brang, i just dont justify the price

@TallQ8i thats good info. Thanks a bunch.

@TallQ8ti sounds like a lot of driving to get discounts, I would rather pay a few fils more than travel here and there for items. BTW how tall is tall ? lol

TallQ8i

justfedup - thank you
kuwait411 - its not just fils, usually i save more than 30 KD weekly on my grocery shopping whenever i do for home or for camping / shaleeh ..

i am 6'2ft. its a silly random name, i wish i can change it now to something decent.

kuwait411

6'2 mashallah definitely one of the tallest Kuwaiti men I've seen here. If there were only more than a handful of tall men here it would make it a better place lol 30 KD is a lot but who has time to drive all over Kuwait searching for deals? I would rather not get stuck in traffic and fight with crowds of people to buy potatoes.

@TallQ8i 6'22? If you played volleyball for a Kuwaiti team, then chances are that I know you. Did you study in Kuwait University?

That was off topic. Now back to the topic. The way of shopping that I have seen worked best with less effort is a distributed kind of shopping, where in someone goes for the cheapest (without sacrificing quality) fish market, another goes to vegetables and so on. Then they all split what they got. I would love to try that once to be honest.
