Hello Nathan,

If you have already received your employment visa then your company obviously had the clearance for that position and enough work to appoint you to handle those requirements. These are good signs. Also, if you have already been appointed then you do not have to worry about your position getting suddenly ‘Omanised’. That will not happen, else the employer would have appointed an Omani for that position in the first place and saved themselves the hassles of hiring an expatriate for that job

But also be aware that just because you have been issued with a 2-year employment visa, it is by no means a guarantee that the job will be yours for the next 2 years. Visa cancellation can be done anytime by mutual consent, either initiated by you or by your employer. However, for the employee it does come with certain hassles and at a price – such as penalties and financial refunds to be made to the company for the money they would have spent on recruiting you, visa fee, airfare, et al. That is why it is really very critical that you go through your employment contract very, very carefully and with a fine-tooth comb to be cent percent sure about everything written in there – including about the exit clause.

Best of luck !
