Hi

Can somebody advise if $2800 / Rp33.8m per month in Jakarta expendable is..

Comfortable
Extremely comfortable
High Life

I'm single and I like to eat out during the week and drink and go out at weekends, having said that I am not currently living a high life in the UK, but I am comfortable so I know the value of money and I don't tend to waste it.

Company covers housing, healthcare, commuting etc

Thanks

You will be doing fine with this amount of money if all is the other expenses are covered by the company.....

Thanks for your reply, by doing fine do you mean eating out, drinking & socialising without having to think about it or would I have to still be careful how I spend.

I don't do pretentious, I am quite happy with mid-range places to eat and street food etc but I do like a couple of big nights out a month.

I basically want to know if I would need to budget or if this monthly salary can go a long long way if spent properly in a city like Jakarta, would I be able to live very comfortably and indulge now and again?

Having drinks and dining out in places where other expat socialize will be fine once a while....don't think you will do it every night right?!?

Of course it is also possible to spend the whole amount in one night only but you would not do it if I am not wrong.

in the end it depends on your life style and if you also can adopt to local food and local beer, if you are more into exclusive dining and also hard liquor then things can get expensive indeed.

cl1ffster

Local food & local beer is fine for me, I like to get immersed in the culture etc I am not bothered about fine dining etc

Thanks for your info, sounds like I will be very comfortable if I choose where to spend my money wisely

lukereg

Beer from 26,000 a bottle. Cigarettes from 12,000.  A meal in a standard restaurant 60-80k. Movies 100k on the weekend, half price in the week. Spirits and wine are highly taxed so expensive but can be found fairly simply. Taxis cheap and the Premier Footy free in most bars so you can live well on your salary. If the girls get involved then wallets can tend to empty rather quickly, so be wary....

cl1ffster

Thanks lukereg, thats the kind of thing I needed to hear......single lads view of things :)

I did read a load of other threads, but you can't beat asking your own questions, cheers all

(as for the woman on $10k/month, you can live anywhere in the world very comfortably for that, numpty question alert)

Which part of the city are you staying in? I used to be single but the charms and delights of Indonesian soon changed that.

I don't know yet, still in the early stages of the interview process, but Ive been given a heads up on the salary etc probably central in an apartment to save the commute each morning, I'll have a healthy housing allowance each month if I get the job and then the rest is to enjoy my weekends with :)

lukereg

Wish you luck with getting the job. Let us know when you do and we can steer you in the right direction for refreshment beverages and the like.

happyhour

And make sure that your package includes the correct permits to work and stay here....

cl1ffster

Cheers fella, I'll remember that if I get the job, all the best

2800 usd per month, exclude tax or nett? if its nett then should be fine, as an expat you just need to find right crowd does not mean to be picky for friendship but well it is important as it may also determine your dating scene! night out can be simply cost 1 million and if you on date include drinks etc just double the number and if you are with heavy drinkers expats can simply spend 4 mill per night! However lot of cheaper drinkings, social options as well.

Beer in a pub is at least 50,000 - nightclub more like 100+

Food at decent restaurants more like 300-600, and fine dining 800+

30 mill + expenses is pretty reasonable, but it's not crazy money.

yuliantohadi22

yes you can long life in indonesia

Our hominoidea friend is correct.
The main costs for expats here are the beer, the top quality food and the clubbing.
If you stay dry, don't hunt the naughty ladies in clubs and stick to simple food, it costs not a lot to live here.
That or marry a lady such as my wife - she won't let me go out. :D

So it means you come over get married to a local and then you will save most of your money because your wife won't let you go out..... :unsure

Pretty much, I'm under the thumb. :(

lukereg

Yep under the thumb, under a pile of washing, under a pile of nappies, family life seems to get right in the way of wasting 50,000k a beer these days. So glad Indomaret sells the same for 25k

Big advantage of going all Muslim - I don't care about the price of beer. :D
Nappies II, the new monster, is due at my house soon.
I'll post photos if you wish.

Kuma83

Can some one tell me the price (rent per month) of an average full furnished Apartment at Jakarta with a swimming pool.

lukereg

I could

kingwilly

Depends on location. Try somewhere between $500pm - $3,000pm

happyhour

Next question....

Why you keep asking all those questions...how about you search in the forum and look for the infos.

happyhour

Sure about what ??

lukereg

Sure that there is a need to fill this forum up with the same questions before looking for answers. FYI I also offer advice on how to eat with cutlery and also why looking where you are going is a good idea. Tom, what can you teach those who search for advice?

happyhour

Luke....I thing nothing much we can do.

Just a question of time that somebody is asking again.

ochie
