Validity of Residence Permit after Finishing Work Contract

Post new topic

Hi everyone long time no post.

I finished my contract with a school in Vietnam but I still have my residence permit valid until November 2015. I am doing a Masters degree program in Spain but unfortunately could not get my student visa processed in time. Spanish law requires one to apply for any overseas documentation in person in a country where they have legal residence. It costs MUCH less to travel to Vietnam on a December (the earliest I could do it) than it would to travel to back to the US just to get everything validated.

On the other hand, I have heard that the validity of residence is directly connected to one still being actively employed by the company.

Thoughts?

I spoke with my visa agent and she said that Work Permits are tied to work; Student Permits are tied to school/college/university attendance; and Residence Permits are stand alone and permit residence until their expiry/cancellation. The only variation is if there are other conditions tied to your Residence Permit.

Personally, I would just carry on living here. (Then plead ignorance if questioned)

Cool! Very good news indeed! Glad that I will be going to back to VN to process my documents then in December!
