Recreation options in Binh Thanh District or Nearby

My husband and I are considering a move to the Binh Thanh district (or nearby). We are active middle-aged ... okay, I need to admit it: senior-ish people. What advice can we get on biking and/or kayaking in this area? Or will we need to get outside of the city for this?

Honestly, biking (bicycle) in this city in my opinion is not real fun. Heavy traffic and lot’s of exhaust fumes and dust. However, in Binh Thanh I would recommend you go and check out Thanh Da. Once you cross the Thanh Da bridge drive all the way down on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh. Maybe you can find some kayaking places on the Saigon river.

The only other area which comes to mind where I would go biking (city biking) is along the small channel/river (don’t know what it’s called), which runs from somewhere in Tan Binh through district 3, Phu Nhuan, district 1 and Binh Thanh down into the Saigon river (near the zoo). Along the channel is a quite quiet road on both sides, perhaps check that out and see if you like it.

Binh Thanh is definitely a good place to bike, its not as crowded.
