Post new topic

Hi

Our son is in Kindergarten and we would both like to start work. Does anyone know options for child minders and if there is any assistance we can get towards the costs?

Thanks
Shariff

Hi Shariff,

How much are you paying the kindergarten and if you get a childminder what is your budget ?
I have a 3 yrs old daughter and moving in on April, I may evaluate your offer if you are interested.

Cheers,

Huong.

Hi

Kindergartens are free here. We have recently found out that they have an after school club for 80cents an hour. We are going to send our son to this club as it seems reasonably priced and they have some good activities for the kids.

Huong15

It sounds really interesting !
Do you have this club's contact details - or just an email address  ?
Thanks in advance if you can help !

It's a club at the school. School finishes at 1:45  and then they can goto club. Not sure if all the schools have the same

Thanks.

I suppose schools are free only for residents ?

Education in Malta is compulsory through to age sixteen and is offered through three different providers: the state, the church, and the private sector.
After you move here and your child becomes old enough you can enrol the child, in State school, subject to certain procedural criteria. You will have to pay for uniform, books, after school clubs etc but basically the education is free.
Or you can apply for a place in a Private School where you will pay for the education.

Hi Redmik,

Thanks for your kind answer !

By the way, could you please let me know if the state schools are English speaking/teaching or only Maltese speaking ?
And how about the nurseries for pre-school education ?

Many thanks again !

Huong.

Now I am going to leave that to others who will know better than me. I am retired and my adult children are in the UK.  :)

Thank you Redmik, and  I am waiting for other replies ...

Hi, there is a lot on here about the primary schools but in brief; areas with expat children (Sliema, St. Paul's Bay) will teach in English for maths, English and science. Maltese, social studies and religion will be in Maltese however, some translation will be given. Also, English and Maltese will be given as 'extra' supplementary lessons in school time for children who do not speak these languages. Education is free from the age of 2 years 9 months on a full time basis. After school clubs are available in most schools (search Klabb 3-16 on google for more info) although, I am not sure about the cost of education for non eu. That is something you will have to look up.
