hi mark cant give you much expertisev on mallorca as mainland spain,but buying a run down finca was the idea way back  most or all have been sold or a high price also, renovating then traveling back and forwards..may result in materials stolen or squatters.property is reasonable at this present time ,my son has just bought a detached property with large  pool garden and fully furnished for 210.000 euros,but be warned
property is on the rise .i spoke to a house agent recently ,who told me he is now looking for property to sell. the banks have shifted their mortgage lots and theres no rebuilding good luck anyway

Thanks for your response. Agree that buying a property and leaving it empty for too long, is risky. Where in mainland Spain do you live?

hi mark we live very near to gibraltar which gives access to an airport banking facilities ect plus its not a costa del sol  life its basically ports and rural been here 27 yrs wouldnt change for the world,,property is very reasonable about here any help call me eddie

Thanks for your response. Gibraltar looks a very nice place. Where near to Gibraltar are you? We're not ruling out moving to the mainland, as we have some people we know along the coast, from Murcia down to Puerto Banus.
Due to our ages, my wife is 40 & I'm 50, we still have to work, so buying a property now seems a good thing to do, especially considering the prices. We can then spend the next few years developing the property, build up a social network and generally adapt to life in Spain. Both of us have travelled and adapt very easily to different cultures so learning some Spanish and integrating isn't a problem.
Any further advice on areas gratefully received. Cheers. Mark

hi mark well your ages are about right i was 55 the wife 42, luckily she got a job in gibraltar at safeways  ,i a year later and we both stayed there til we retired ,work isnt im[possible to find ,depending on your talents..we live near SAN  ROQUE,.i would advise  live ie rent a place to where you think you would like to live ,this gives you the chance to move without selling .intergrating is no problem .we prefer to live where theres a large spanish neighbours and a few foriegners .but thats our choice.at 83 i spend most of my time gardening shopping  dancing and chatting with friends which i had few in the uk.remember this isnt a long holiday it will be your home eddie
