Residency permit- do we really need to have 鈧�4000 each in Greek bank?

We have found a lovely house to rent聽 in Pelopennese. We were informed by the local police that we need a minimum of 鈧�4000 each in a Greek bank account to apply for a residency permit
can anyone help with what we really do need we are getting so many conflicting messages.
we plan to move on October聽 so still time to change聽 our minds.

Hi,can I ask what nationality you are?If you are European then you dont need a permit to be here,Europeans staying permanently register at the police station which costs very little money,if you are only staying a few months you do nothing.

Generally speaking,聽聽anyone holding an American passport would need at least 5,000聽 euros聽 in holdings to stay here.. as anyone from the Uk ..聽聽You don1`t need anything...聽 to stay here..

If your buying a house here in Greece... U need a tax number...
If You buy a car here , U need a tax number....
Your passport should be enough to get a tax number聽聽especially聽 if your buying a house here... BUT聽聽 do go to your local office and ask... as things can change ..... & always get a 2ns=d opinion聽聽聽
