Life of a physiotherapist in maldives.

Post new topic

Ajith Thomas

Hai friends,
Iam Ajith,a new member in this group.Ìý Iam a physiotherapist by profession. Recently I got a job offerÌý from maldives to work as a physiotherapist. Salary mentioned in it is around 1000 USD per month. They providesÌý accomodation but the food must be cooked by our own. They wont give any special allowance for that.
I would like to know more aboutÌý the cost of living there in maldives .My intention is to save as much money as I can . Iam not that kind of a guy whoÌý spends a lot on entertainment or luxuries. Please helpÌý me to know more about the living standardÌý and oppurtunities for a physiotherapist in maldives.
Thankfully,
Ajith

hey Mr. Therapist,

welcome to maldives :)

well being an expat 1000$ for a single person (if accommodation is provided) is quite reasonable. standard of living depends where your job location is. if you are in local islands or remote islands than dont expect much actually dont expect anything ;) but if you are in male or hulhumale then yes its quite better and hulhumale is the best place to live in maldives.

for cooking i must say its very hard to find time for cooking and purchasing groceries but still you can manage around 300 to 400$ a month max. current & water is also around 100$ a month for a single person.

best regards,
cheers

First of all,Ìý thanks Mr.kingali for spending ur time to help me by replying . The information you provided is prettyÌý helpful and relevant .Ìý Iam curious about to know in what field you are currently practicingÌý in maldives. As you are presently an expat, I would be pleased if you can help me with some more information.
I would like to know why u said its hard to find time for cooking. In my job offer it is mentioned that I got 8 hours of duty per day and one offday every week .Also i must pay the agency INR 350000/- inorder to get a job overthere.
I wouldÌý also like to know more aboutÌý the private consultations and homevisits by physiotherapists in maldives. Are theyÌý paid well?

Dr.M.Jaffer Merchant

WELL.........all depend upon where u will post.......i think u will be posted in developed island where cost of living for one person will be at least 3000 rufya, without accommodation, means 200$
well accumulation usually they give allowance & u have to find it, if u leave in one room it should be at least 150$-200$, bocz i m also specialist Dr, so i know all these things very well

kingali2308

in hulhumale minimum room rent now a days is 400$.
if i said its hard to have time for cooking is just bcoz of ur duty schedule. here they say 8 hrs but definitely its stretchable with out any monetary gain : Welcome to maldives ;) then if your work place is on another island

then you have to waste your time on ferry terminals as well.

Last but not the least the amount that you are paying to get job in maldives doesnt worth it bcoz its almost 5500 USD simple calculation u will get 12000$ in a year 60% will be your expense wait n watch so 1 year you are going to work for free for urself as you r paying huge sum to the agents.

thats my opinion bro, other expats can also suggest.

i m working as General Manager for a hotel in North Male Atoll.

Ajith Thomas

:) Thanks doc for yourÌý valuable information .I would like to know more about private consultations and homecare provided by the physiotherapist overthere in maldives.Does the private practiceÌý is allowed overthere and do you knowÌý howmuch they are paid for an hour? . I think you can help me more as you are a specialist doc from medical field.

Ajith Thomas

Thank you somuch kingali. I really appreciate your helping mentality. As you saidÌý I know the amount paying to the agent is quite high but I have no other choice :( .Ìý When I discussed them about theÌý latter they told me that the majority of the amount which iam paying them goes to the maldivian government and they gettting only aÌý little profit from it. :|

kingali2308

no way bro,
the total cost for the govt of maldives getting a work permit is as follows :
monthly cost only 250 MVR i.e. almost less than 20$ (to be paid in 3 quarters)
visa deposit (300$) for indian nationals
125$ total for processing & card
20$ for medical.

thats all the expense and not a single coin extra.

ask them to give you govt receipts for the fee.

best regadrs

:sosad: OMG. .is it true?
These agencies are looting money... :mad:Ìý
Is it possible to apply direct without help of theseÌý fake agencies?
If you know..please help me

kingali2308

please visit job-maldives.com also google ministry of health maldives jobs may be it will help

Ajith Thomas

:cheers:Ìý Thanks bro,
I sent my Cv and certificatesÌý to Ministry of Health Maldives as you advised. Now waiting for the reply from them.

Dr.M.Jaffer Merchant

well......here in Maldives, there is no concept of private clinic. All terms & condition are fixedÌý & u will come to know when u will reach & sign another contact with MOH in which each & every thing is written, this is the main contract, the letter thatÌý agent gave u is just forÌý formality for visa & other purpose & the agent him self does n`t know anyÌý things in this contact & he can`t do & comment to u
well.......being a physiotherapist,u cant do homeÌý visit & such type of thing, noÌý such concept here
I would advise to come for 3 months, if u feel its worth for u carry on ....otherwise u will back to contry

kingali2308

i second mr. merchant's suggestion. as maldives is quite complicated. but dont forget one thing my friend if there's a will there's a way. so keep searching some one reliable enough to risk your savings.

best of luck.

cheers
