To fit in here it is better to speak french but also to speak English as th country is now becoming Anglophone. If you can learn some Kinyarwanda as well, so much the better. Also make sure that you make some good local friends to help you out with things. I am lucky because my first wife was Rwandese and so is my second one.

15 years living in Rwanda... crossing fingers for upcoming opportunity to relocate..
How did you manage to adjust to Rwanda? Be really open minded about this country.  Nothing should quite shock you.   

How long does it take to feel at home? Would you say it is an easy process? This really depends on a lot of factors too many to go into details.  But if pressed for three key factors, 1. your ability to quickly get into a tight social group eg work, church,  2. Your integrity as a person.  Rwanda is a small society and word of mouth goes far.. if you are not ready to be above board, be honest in your dealings, keep your word, work diligently (even if Rwandans may not.. ) you will earn good social points around here. 3. Be people focused.. take interest in your neighbor, work colleague greet ask how they are social etiquettes is big here! No going in the office and getting straight down to business, greet first enquire about their family etc and note that so next time you can connect on this. Goes a BIG way with Rwandans who are quite nice once you get accepted
