Choosing accommodation to fit budget

Post new topic

Hey there folks! I need your suggestions regarding suitable accommodation in Riyadh for a family of three with a 3-year old kid.

First of all, could you please tell me if I can actually expect to find something decent with my company offering me a monthly allowance in the range of 1500-2000 USD?
I am aware that this allowance is hardly enough to get me in a compound, but what else can I bargain for with what I got here?

Is living off compound an option for an expat family in Riyadh?

Can you suggest any areas/neighborhoods of Riyadh which are more relaxed, friendly, and where there are things to do close by, ex. parks, playgrounds etc.?

Does living off compound leave any options for wife and kid to mingle with other expat wives and kids when I'll be away at work all day? How and where?

Sorry for this outburst of questions, but your insight is much appreciated.

Well, if I ever learn anything about this topic, and provided I am not busy, I will write it down on this forum one day, so the next generations won't have to re-invent the wheel over again :D

You can easily get a large, comfortable, private villa (possibly even with a swimming pool), in almost any area on the outskirts of Riyadh for that price. I saw one in the north (Exit 7) for US$ 12,000 per annum a few weeks back. It was brand new and had 4 bedrooms and 3 toilets with a small garden and garage.

Thanks a lot musicman. I am definitely hoping to be able to get something that has its own yard/garden so family could spend some time outside the house, even though I am aware of the fact that properties are walled anyway.

Are the north suburbs of Riyadh (Exit 7) that you are mentioning only residential blocks with nothing close by within walking distance (ex. parks, shops, anything recreational)?

I am asking this since I would like to get a clear picture if there are any options for my wife and child to do in their plentiful spare time.
