Working in Mauritius as a doctor?

Post new topic

Rd Tna

Hi all,
I have a question that needs to be answered. Hope some of you can help me with it.

I am an Indian citizen and I was a student at SSR Medical College, Belle Rive. All doctors have to undergo a 2 year training period after passing out from medical school in order to  get their licence to practice medicine. During this period, the training body pays a small amount of money as a stipend.

When I passed out of medical school, I (and other expat batchmates of mine) were not allowed to take up this training in Mauritius. We had to come back to our respective countries to undergo the training. I am now licensed with the Medical Council of India.
Meanwhile, my Mauritian friends were employed by the Ministry of Health and they trained at SSRN, JNH and VH (Candos).

My question is, why weren't we allowed to train in Mauritius?
I'm asking this question because very soon, I plan to come to Mauritius again for higher studies (specialization). There is no such training period after specialization. So I hope I am allowed to work in Mauritius as a specialist?

Thanks!

I have a friend who studied there too. Will try to ask her!

hi doc,
better check with TEC(tertiary education commission, former mqa), if the specialisations are validated. courses, especially new ones, takes some time to be validated.

One can check the validity of the specialisation also, by the medical council.

nice sundae.

This thread is nearly 4 years old so I doubt whether you will get a reply.
I suggest that you start a new thread on the Mauritius forum.

You could try contacting hospitals in Mauritius for information too.
