I am planning on visiting Addis Ababa very soon and want to know if there will be broadband internet available anywhere? Does anybody know?

zassefa

Yes there are couple of places that provide broad band internet service inside the Hilton hotel and the Sheraton Hotel. I am pretty sure other places might have it as well. Hope this helps.

I live in the U.S. but I visit Addis at least once every two years.

Hotels: On the high end you are looking at ($150 - $250 U.S.) per night in one of the international standard hotels. But on the average a decent hotel cost is ($35 - $75 U.S.) per night.

Transportation: Not quite sure if you are renting or using public transportation ...If you are renting the cost ranges between ($25 - $40 U.S.). I am not quite sure the cost of taxi cabs.

Food is very reasonable ($5 - $10).

Hope this helps.

I'm moving to Addis Ababa in a week and am looking for shared housing. Does anyone know of anyone in the market for a housemate? Or is there a website/resource I can look to that posts furnished apartments?

Hi Kiflom,

rental of a decent housing unit, a villa, though a bit far from city center, is possible for USD 400 to 600 a month. Apartment units in the city can be rent for 500 to 800 usd. Upscale housing rentals, villa, is in city (bole, old air port, etc) ranges from 3,000 to 5,000 usd, generally. Expect monthly groceries to run up to usd 500 for a family of 3. Annual gym expense for family is under usd 1,000.  Annual Schooling, per child, the highest standard (ICS) is close to usd 20,000 per child but be sure to have a decent one for less than usd 2,500 annually. Current price of fuel- petrol- is close to usd 1 per litre.

Very general statement: For USD 2,500, one can lead a decent life with a fimily of 3 to 4.

Hope this helps.

hi guys i have a quation if i take around 2,500puond i will be ok for all my expencese for 3months in addiss

suave

Eyasu,

let's see it like this:
2,500 Pounds is equivalent to 3,700 USD or 50,000 Birr
- If you pay for Lodging at a hotel or guest house-minimum $40 per day,( $40*30*3= $3,600)- left with $100 for other expenses for three months- not possible
- if you rent a furnished flat- on avarage 10,000 birr per month, Birr 50,000-(10,000*3)/90 = Birr 222 per day for other expenses- you can just survive
- If you have some place to stay without paying for it, $3,700/30*3 = $41, equivalent to 550 Birr per day- you can comfortably cover your daily expenses for the three months.

Sincerely,
Suave.
