Malaysia is a wonderful country for a holiday.
Loads of attraction, many in the KL area, but a lot outside the capital as well.
As for KL, I'd stay in Chinatown area as there are loads of cheap but clean hotels available.



I've never considered a holiday there with children quite so young as your kids, so that part will have to be left to others.

These days many visitors are choosing to book a house or apartment with AirBnb as it can be a lot cheaper than staying in a decent hotel. Some of the nicer parts of the city are in Bangsar and Ampang, but you might also consider staying in a hotel or apartment in a shopping mall as there are often many things to do there, such as at Times Square. My own kids are 4 and 5 years old and they are content at any of the indoor playgrounds in any of the malls. You can also check on for hotels.

An interesting place to visit or stay is at Sunway Lagoon where they have an artificial beach with waves, a small zoo or safari park, a theme park and a shopping mall with an ice skating rink. It's a huge mall with loads of places to eat too.

In the south of Malaysia in the city of Johore Baru there is Legoland. However, some of my friends have complained that it lacks trees of protection from the very hot sun and they chose to go on to Singapore to visit Universal Studios. In fact, if you have the time and budget, there are many great places to visit in Singapore.

Many of the sites in KL are geared towards adults, such as temples, Chinatown and shopping in Bukit Bintang. Similarly, travelling out of the city to places like Melaka, Penang or Langkawi are also better for adults or older children, in my opinion. But one place that you shouldn't miss is Central Market which is a great place for shopping for local and traditional products, souvenirs, clothes and food. It's just 5 mins walk from there to China Town.

Just to add a place where I brought my 4yo, I-City Shah Alam (City of Lights), they have a light park, water theme park, family karaoke. This place is located 45mins drive from KL Main. Cheaper than Sunway Lagoon and hotel is RM200.00 with 2 Queen beds. My daughter had a blast there.

Best month to visit the west coast beaches (all year round) and the east coast beaches from April-early Sept. Beaches there close between Oct-Feb due to monsoon.

Malaysia's rainy season is usually year end and dry in the mid year.
