Vegetarian in Addis

Hello all,
I hope you are well.
I was wondering what kind of options I would have in Addis as a vegetarian. I hear that there are more Ethiopian dishes that are becoming vegetarian. Is that true? I am hoping so so I can still have all the yummy-ness . :-) I have only had a few dishes and that was before I was vegetarian.
Also, I understand one meaning of the offering of tibs is a sign of respect for the person it is being offered to. Would it be considered rude that I do not eat it?
Thank you for your responses to my first post! ooo
As Ethiopian, I could say, my opinion, we are not vegetarian but people going on diet or realising the benefit of it so You will have plenty of choices..specially during fasting season, you could get different kind..my guess is you are not cook...anyways you shouldnt worry about food stuff here..you will get what you need and expressing disapproval on your desire is not bad thing...if i get your questions right...anyways goodluck
Thanks Eclipse!
I usually do prefer cooking over going out to eat, but was wondering about when I decided to venture out to visit people or decide to eat out. I was also hoping to learn some new cooking styles. Yum! My main concern though was coming across as rude.
Thanks again!
You will be fine...You would not consider rude...the locales knows you will have different taste for sure...but to tell your test before for your friend or whatever you been invited...will do just fine

Thanks for your input Ethioboy123. I am not quite in Ethiopia yet, but feel welcomed already
I am vegetarian and i just got back from a 5 month stay in Ethiopia. Well, Shiro will be your best friend. that is a traditional ethiopian, chick peas simmered in berbere sauce. most certainly you will find it any restaurant. the restaurants are not flexible for the most part. i try to take the meat out and order it in a way it will be appropriate to be, but that is hard to do in Ethiopia, unlike here US you can say take this out and it will be okay.Â
almost half of the calendar year is consider to be a fasting season (every Wed, and Friday and i think few weeks before Christmas and few other holidays) but the modern Addis restaurant do not follow such tradition. if you walk into a small neighborhood   restaurant for sure you will find fasting option in the menu.
if you cook home you will enjoy the fresh products of vegetable for a very low price.Â
in general Ethiopia is one of the best places in Africa for food.
best wishes
