Property prices in Taiwan

Hello everyone,

Finding affordable housing in Taiwan is number one priority for newcomers. Tell us more about the estate market in your district/city/region.

What are the most desired places to live? What are the most affordable ones? What is the average cost of a rented flat? And what is the average sale price for an appartment or a house? Could you tell us more about local real estate policies/procedures? What about property tax or residency tax in Taiwan?

What about you? Where do you live now? Is it a place you would recommend?

Thank you in advance for your clarifications.

Taipei certainly has unreasonably high home prices relative to say Vancouver, Canada. It's easy to spend US$500,000 (NT$15.9M) on a new condo in Taipei that would be beyond the reach of many under-40 Taiwanese. Yet the same money could buy an equally or better condo in Van., where the average wage is likely double or more than in Taipei but not reflected in home prices.

One can easily pay US$3.14M (NT$100M) for a top-end condo in Taipei, but the same amount would buy a nice single-detached home with a yard in Van.

Expect to pay NT$10K or more monthly to rent a small studio condo in an older building, probably up to NT$20K in a new building.

Stay within walking distance to the MRT lines for convenience when looking for property in Taipei, where car ownership is to be avoided if at all possible due to widely available public transport.
