The holiday season in Italy

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Are you about to celebrate the holiday season in Italy? In many countries and cultures, the festive season is the time for happiness and reunions/gatherings. Is it so in Italy? How do Italians celebrate this very special time of the year?

What about you? Will you spend the holiday season in your host country or in your home country? Will there be expat reunions/celebrations/parties in your region/town/area?

Thank you in advance for sharing!

Hi Priscilla

We will stay at our B&B Villa I Due Padroni as we have family guests this year to enjoy the last days of 2016 together with us! One of the traditional events here is the very old custom of the or "LÂ SENÂ DI SÈT SÉN" in Pavese dialect: a seven course meal on the evening before Christmas. And then on Christmas day of course the big meal, which is a lunch instead of a dinner as we were used to at home. Why a lunch, you may wonder? Probably because it is so extensive that you need time to digest before going to sleep ;-) On New Years Eve there is a dinner however (as you stay up till late after 12 anyway). The traditional here is cooked sausage cotechino and lentils. And o yes, people give eachother red underwear as a present, believe it or not ...

Ciao
