how to obtain permanent residency in Canada

Hi! I am a US citizen trying to figure out how my husband and I can live permanently in Canada but still keep our US citizenship. We are 65 and about to retire so we cannot come in on a work or education basis. I am an artist but am not internationally known, only locally, so I'm not sure if that path will work.
I have looked at the immigration website but don't see a path for us.
Does anyone have advice for us? Is it worthwhile to hire a immigration lawyer?( I was recommended to one but he charges $400 an hour.)
Any info or advice would be appreciated!
Thanks

christinelisa

I just passed my immigration consulting exam ... and its not so easy to retire in Canada for US
citizens ... unless you have family here that could support you or apply for a super visa ? or you could come here for 6 months per year on a visitor visa, and return to us when its cold here.

Thanks for your reply! We would be able to support ourselves without family, would that count?
