Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello,

Before moving to Cyprus, it is important to investigate the cost of living in the country.

As we did in 2015, we give you the opportunity to share your experience and tell us more about products and services average recorded prices in your town/city/area.

DonÂ’t hesitate to let us know if the cost of living in Cyprus has decreased or increased in the past few years.

Thanks to your help, would-be expatriates will have the opportunity to refine and better prepare their expatriation project.

How much does it cost to rent an apartment/house in Cyprus?
This depends a lot on area and individual requirements. Which town/ area do you want to live in, do you want a pool, do you want to live near the sea, do you want a garden, do you want this and that ..... A good two bed apartment, unfurnished can cost as little as 200 euros per month, while a good 3 bedroomed house can cost as little as 400 euros. Many properties you are going to rent are going to come furnished, and you pay a little extra for it.

How much do you pay for your public transport tickets ?
The buses are very good here, and relatively cheap, with many journeys only costing about a euro or so. Taxis can be expensive, and you need to be careful.

Staple food: what do people eat and how much do they pay for basic food like bread, rice or pasta?
If you choose to eat 'branded' foods all the time, you will pay more. The local diet is good and healthy and cheap once you get the hang of it. Local meats are excellent quality, plentiful, and very reasonably priced. Local vegetables are also good quality and very well priced.

How much does it cost to see a physician/doctor/specialist in Cyprus ?Ìý
Once again, it depends on your needs. You can see a local private doctor for around 40 euros per visit, which does not include any prescriptions you might have to get. The local pharmacies are very well trained, and are a good source of information before going to spend your money in a clinic. I personally do not visit Doctors unless I really have to, instead I go to the pharmacist.

What is your children's schooling monthly budget?
This will vary from school to school. The only ones who can help you here, are the schools themselves.

How much does it cost to fill up your car’s fuel tank?
What car do you have? Fuel is currently around 1.25 euros per litre.

How much do you pay for electricity/gas/water etc.?
Water is cheap, around 17 euros for a small household per 2 month period

How much do you pay for your Internet/phone subscription?
Again, dependant on where you go. Cytanet and Primetel are two very good suppliers of telephone/internet/ tv and mobile packages for around 30 - 40 euros per month, while there are some independent wifi suppliers who will supply just the wifi from about 25 euros per month (installation not included)

How much do you pay for your lunch pack on weekdays?
Why would you? Most will include this in their weekly grocery bill. You can use local bakeries for about 4-5 euros each time if you so desire.

How much do you pay for an espresso coffee?
A Cyprus coffee, or an espresso will cost you a euro most places.

How much do you pay for a cinema ticket?
About 6 euros.

How much does a gym membership cost in Cyprus?Ìý
Daily, weekly, monthly or yearly?? Varies from gym to gym. Go and ask!!

The best advice I can give on many of these questions is, go to the places that offer the services you are seeking, and ask them direct. If you post a question on a forum, you will get so many conflicting answers from those who prefer this guy or that guy, or this place or that place, you will end up with a major headache!!
