Situation in Bahrain

Post new topic

Julien

Hi,

I sincerely hope all of you guys are ok. How is the situation in Bahrain ?

Where/how can we follow the news ?

Take care,

Julien

It's ok..this is not for us expats to get involved in anyway, this is their battle. As long as you avoid the protests, things are 'normal'..a bit quiet and eerie. Interestingly, I am seeing my Bahraini friends slowly change their minds and exchange opinions. I only hope this does not lead to any further secterian divides. I have both sunni and shia friends who have been friends for yonks, for now, they are still keeping together..but we will see. Things are escalating, getting somewhat out of control.

For news, I have been using Al Jazeera English. They have apparantly been criticized for their coverage on their arabic channel. Perhaps under stricter control from Qatar..? Twitter and The Guardian have provided good sources. Some horrendous photos on twitter though.

I only hope no more lives are wasted, too many deaths in what could have been a peaceful event.

Hi All

I have a group of guests who will fly in to Bahrain on Feb 23 and stay till Feb 25.  Do you think it's safe for them to travel to Bahrain?  Also, any special notice issued about the operation of international airlines?  Still in normal condition now?

Any inputs will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

The airport, as far as I'm aware is working like normal. Just check with your airline or the airport website before they leave.

I would say its still very much safe here. Just avoid the hot spots and try not to get caught up in roadblocks or anything. this seems to be the general attitude I'm finding.

This is all quite sad though, I hope the violence ends soon. Some horrific stories coming out.

It seems to have calmed down alot. Things are getting back to normal.
