So I've been offered a two year contract in the Janabiya area of Bahrain, but I'm not sure what to expect in terms of the social life in Bahrain! does any one have any advice on how to get involved and get out there and make friends? I'm 22 if that helps!

Thanks!

It all depends on what you like to do for the social scene..
Bahrain is a very relaxed and calm place with many things that suite your individual taste.

Its a small island but has some nice things here to see (limited - but ok) and lots of places to eat and drink. Away from that most of good hotels have night club if its your kind of atmosphere.  Now and again there are events held from time to time too

However, there are some places here that ive been to and they are great if eating with friends and at the same time, very comfortable places too,  to chill out, with nice music and relaxing atmosphere.

Then there are out door activities that ive seen on the island where some use jet ski's for their water sport entertainment, fishing and generally a good walk or workout in the open spaces.

Now is Ramadan, so the bars and clubs will be closed during this holy month and in general it will be quiet. So quiet, that the roads are less congested in the morning and evening (before breaking fast). Most of the eateries will be closed during the day and will only open in the evening too.  :)

So in short, all depends on what you like doing. Depending on your choice, you will meet like minded people at these places.

Good luck and hope you will like it here.  :top:

Thank you for all your helpful comments!  for the past few years we've always vacationed in Dubai, which is such a contrast to anywhere else in the world, so I doubt it'd be like Dubai! A lot of expats settle in to Bahrain quickly which is comforting to know. I've been searching to find out about events during Aug/September time but I guess its too early in advance to be looking at those!

Thanks

For me, I had the same concerns when I first moved here, how I would meet people etc. For the first 3-4 months it was not the most active of times and I wouldn't call the people I knew friends, then it seemed to click into place.

I would say that you need to be patient with it, and keep yourself open to the opportunities. Unlike the UK, people are warm and genuine so keep that in mind!

Thank you, all of the links look promising and I'll be saving them to my favourites. I have my induction  via skype on Tuesday so wish me luck!  :D

I learned one thing in Bahrain .. you need to surround yourself with less than a handful of true real likeminded mood friends! And you will have a quality blast of your life! ✌ðŸ»ï¸

Best of luck.
