Hello everyone,

What are the best ways you've found for keeping in touch with friends and family back home while living in Kenya? How frequently do you stay in touch with loved ones?

Are there local equivalents to common instant messaging and online video calling services that you prefer or are more widely used?

If there is a sizeable time difference, how do you manage this?

Do you make international phone calls from a landline or mobile phone from Kenya? What do you think of the cost?

Hi... from my own experience here in UK, I find keeping in touch with my friends in Kenya very easy by using the likes of WHATSAPP... which is an excellent and secure mobile app offering full texts, chat messages, and actual voice calls as well as VIDEO CHATS!!聽 Whatsapp allows sending Photos Videos and most documents etc.. all messages encrypted and which cannot be read or accessed other than between author and recipient!!

When I wish to CALL my friends in Kenya from UK... I use a mobile app called REBTEL which I find good value for money, easy to use, and crystal clear INTERNET VOICE CALLING... type in REBTEL in Google Search for more info!!

Related to keeping in touch by chatting on Whatsapp and Talking on Rebtel from UK.. I also easily and quickly send money fromUK to Kenya recipients using a London based UK Financial WORLDWIDE Money Transfer Service called WORLD REMIT... transfer fees rock bottom compared to Banks.. type in WORLD REMIT Google Search!!

Glad you kow... however, there are many others who may not know about the whatsapp and its effectiveness to communicate not just by chat... but also by VOICE CALL and VIDEO CHATS etc.

Oh I think that WhatsApp is very well used in Kenya, by many.聽 Its a very tech and mobile savvy society!

We certainly mainly use it to communicate with friends and family, both in Kenya and overseas.

Mobile calling rates from Kenya, certainly to the UK are very reasonable too.
