Certification for a non-native speaker.

Post new topic

FabXP

Hello, my name is Fabry and i'm from Italy.
I'm about to move to HCMC soon. Unfortunately i don't have a bachelor degree, and at the moment i do not own any english/other certifications.
Since i still have some months left to take certifications i'm here to ask:
- Is a certification required for a teaching job?
- What certification to take for being able to teach there as a non-native speaker (from IELTS, TEFL, CELTA etc)?

Thanks in advance,
Good day  :)

Celta is good. Classroom experience is what you really need.

Hello Fabry,

Please note, without a Bachelor's degree you may not be considered eligible for a Work Permit in Vietnam (as an English teacher).
Working without a valid WP is illegal.
If you still choose to work without one, you do it at your own risk of being nabbed and deported.

Yes, an ELT certification is a must.
It could be TEFL/TESOL or CELTA/DELTA. Any one of those is fine.
I'd suggest a CELTA.

Note, IELTS is not an ELT (English Language Training) certification. It only validates your English language proficiency as a non-native English speaker.

Classroom experience, as @colinoscapee said, is the key to your success as a teacher.

Have a nice day!
