Dog walking meetups anyone?

Post new topic

mulvsy

Hi everyone,

Is anyone interested in meeting up to walk their dogs together? I have a 6 month german shepherd that I would love to take on walks with other dogs. Unfortunately much of the interaction she has with other dogs here in Mauritius is with street dogs in small packs and very territorial dogs when we walk past houses.

I live in the west so if anyone is interested please let me know. Ideally we could get a small group of people and dogs together and make it somewhat regular!

Hi. We are not yet in Mauritius and I hope it won't be too long before we are.  We have 2 German Shepherds and a basset. Are there nice places to walk dogs there? Parks? On the beach? Juliet

Hi,

Yes, it truly is a sad state of affairs. I tried to organise such a club, but there seemed little interest.  We are in B River area and have been attacked by street and neighbours dogs!

I used to walk my dog off leash in the sugar cane fields which was great but have since stopped once I became aware that they lay poison down everywhere. Its too bad because the fields are literally everywhere and make great walking trails. If you feel comfortable that your dogs wont eat anything off of the ground then they are a great option.

I usually walk the dog on the beaches now - on leash. Never had an issue, just make sure to pick up after them. There are lots of stray dogs on the beaches and 1 on 1 they are usually very friendly and want to play but once they get into their little packs then it can become very different very quickly.

As for the official mountain type trails - Ive had success with these too but have always entered from unofficial trail heads. Not sure if you arent allowed to walk dogs here but have been told by others that they will stop you if you enter the main entrance.

Thank you for all of the information! I appreciate it!
Hope to meet one day.

I'm in Flic en Flac. I have an adopted street dog who is quite nervous and would love it if she could meet up with other friendly  dogs for a walk ( she has been steralised) I also have a pup...who is adventurous lol He will be neutered this month.. Both would benefit from meeting other dogs if anyone is willing

Yes. definitely. Im in Tamarin so just around the corner. PM me when you would like to do a meet up.

Anyone else interested?

Hi Alisha. Unfortunately the walks never really started.

My dog is also a GSD and she can definitely still use some socializing with other dogs if you are interested. She loves to play with other dogs but doesn't approach all situations gracefully and unfamiliar dogs may take her excitability as aggression.

Im in the west as well. PM me if interested

Hi guys

We are up north. So a little bit far for us but love the idea. Keep it up :)

I hope you make it happen.

Albion is quite nice for walking dogs (and living also, since it is off the main roads). I am not living far from the bus terminus and use to walk my dogs along the path to the light house, sometimes further towards Pointe aux Sables. There is only grassland and cliffs. As from the bus terminus I have them off the leash.
Also in the south of Albion is the sugar cane service road to Medine. A wide gravel track with no traffic (since it has been closed right on the Albion side).
But I prefer the lighthouse trail, since I don't need to have them very long on the leash.

How safe is it? It looks nice

I never ran into any issue so far. Seeing a lady in the past from time to time walking her dogs in the morning and evening towards the light house.
Only thing annoying in the southern road is that you sometimes smell the pesticides sprayed on the fields. Alternatively you could park in and use the path along the canal between Terre D'Albion and Splendid but keep in mind that there might be other people walking/running who are not so much into dogs.
In the northern path the grass is partially quite high at the moment, so the track itself is hard to be seen. Some of the grass tend to stick/sting in the clothes.
Most time I walk along the cliffs to the light house and take the road back from there.

I just moved to Mauritius and live in the North unfortunately. :(  I love the idea too!

Anyone know if there’s dog park? Or specific beach with more sociable pet dog?
My female dog loves to play with other dogs.  She is very sociable

We hope to be in Mauritius by April  with  our two  Spanish Water Dogs  and would love to meet up with other people and their dogs

Hi, wish there was a dog park! Sadly beaches all have strays. Our really sociable woofer died and although I have 2 other rescues they are really not so dog friendly with others as they haven't really had the opportunity to socialise. Hard for our furry friends here sadly.

Hi there,
I looking at posts about dog walking in the Black River area. I will be moving there soon with 3 dogs and was wondering if anyone can recommend some nice areas to walk and run our dogs. I'm looking for less crowed areas, not too many joggers or cyclists. Any pointers would be great ðŸ‘

No dog park and also dogs only allowed on beach on a lead and not allowed at all in Black River Gorge national park. So places to  go  are limited
