Living in Kuwait vs Qatar

Post new topic

Indian.Banker

Hi Guys,
I want to understand which region would be a better option to live in. I know this question has already been floated multiple times however I believe the answer would depend on what an individual is seeking for in particular. Hence I would like to understand which country should I opt for.

To give you a background on this, I am a 26 year old banker from India.I have 2 offers in hand, one in Kuwait and other in Qatar. The offer that i currently hold in Kuwait is for 1600 KD while the one from Qatar is 25K QAR (~ roughly 2000 KD). I totally understand that both the offers are really good since I am a bachelor and do not have much to worry upon when it comes to spending. However my aim for now is to stay for a short term in GCC (say 1-2 years which may extend if i really like it there) and save as much as possible for my future. What would be a better option for me. I have heard that Qatar is much more expensive especially in rents which is almost double of what we have in Kuwait(250 KD in Kuwait vs 500 KD in Qatar as per my research) . I am moving alone as a bachelor. Also I have few close relatives in Kuwait which would be a huge plus point for me. Is it worth moving to Qatar given the marginal difference in salary?

Please help!! Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi  Dear I would advise you to go to Qatar. At least their is huminity and you will get your right.but in kuwait you are just an ajnabi. Not human.I am a civil engineer working in kuwait but after so many new rules implications coming to kuwait only for expats so I am thinking if I get any opportunities I would migrants to Qatar.

Yes I accept. Im also an engineer working in Kuwait for almost 5 years and I personally feel that Kuwait is not interested in expats nowadays except for labour jobs. But you can save a lot in Kuwait. Since, you are a bachelor your expenses will be maximum 120KD. Recently Kuwait society of engineers had also put a rule that every engineer should obtain noc for visa renewal as well as for new visa. Similarly Kuwait is also planning to implement this rule for other areas of expertise also.

Hi, I worked in both so I can advise you based on real experience. Kuwait is better for what said you are looking for. Kuwait feels more real and less pretentious in many aspects than Qatar. History tells you that Kuwait has much longer connection and link with expats than Qatar (very recent wealth) and the rest of GCC. So naturally they are more tolerant and advanced in their equality systems. Qatar is good at glossing things up and covering up bad practices! Once you live there you’ll find a wholly different experience. For 1-2 year to save money go for the place that helps you save
