Sending money out of Vietnam

Post new topic

too0ky

Hey everyone! I am just learning how restrictive the banking regulations in Vietnam is. I lend a friend some cash, and now she is trying to pay me back, but unfortunately, the banks would not allow her to send it overseas (US or Budapest). Does anyone have any recommendations? From what I have read, WU is not an option and Paypal has horrible transfer rates in regards to VND. :-( Thank you!

Transfer money from Vietnam to overseas

Unfortunately, these methods do not work for me. I am new in my area, and do not know any one who is Vietnamese to help with the "gold market" method, and WU and MG refused to send money out to non family members...

Is your friend a VN national?
If so, she can use MG to send money out of VN. MG will charge around $90 + $20 (hidden) for the transaction.
If she is not a VN national, it's difficult ... especially if she doesn't have a legitimate source of income in VN.

You can buy Bitcoin on one of the Vietnam exchanges, and sell on one of your local exchanges.  It takes a bit of time to set it all up, but then it is very easy, and probably the best way to get money out of Vietnam.  Worked a treat for me.

Can you advise me on a reputable exchange in Vietnam. I will be selling our house later this year.

Bitcoin!

There are many people here who have concerns about opening a Vietnamese bank account.
You think these people are playing the high-risk game Bitcoin?

I always laugh when I read in blogs how gambler defend the bitcoin.
They are certainly not the first in a pyramid scheme that quickly became very rich.

And by the way:

You misunderstand.  I'm not suggesting it as an investment.  just a means of converting VND to US$ or whatever and transferring funds across borders.  You can buy and sell virtually instantaneously so the risk of dropping value is low.  As are the fees.

Regarding legality, again I'm not suggesting it for buying goods and services, just as a currency transfer mechanism.  This is why the exchanges in Vietnam continue to operate.  Legally.

I wouldn't use bitcoin for the proceeds of a house sale.  You should be able to get the funds out of the country if you can prove to the central bank the original source of the funds.

But for what it's worth I've used both VBTC and Local Bitcoins without hassle.

We had a contract for a blocked account with Vietcombank (Big branch at 23 Nguyá»…n Hữu Thá», Tân HÆ°ng, Quận 7).
With the house sales contract and the papers from the notary we went all to the Vietcombank branch and have drawn up a contract for a blocked account.
The buyers deposit the money into this blocked account and after the house contract was handed over the account was released for us by the bank.
For the whole procedure we were about 4 hours in the bank branch.

But I can't say anything about details, because the whole transaction with the bank was done by the Vietnamese buyer and my Vietnamese wife.

I would just go to the branch and ask how exactly this can be handled.

It's the future if it's transparent and regulated.
But at the moment it is a platform for gamblers and hidden (and often illegal) financial transactions.

Thats why its so popular breaking away from the system
