Advice for type of visa and immigration consultancy

Post new topic

Johns_HK

Hi,

We are thinking to move to Mauritius next year around Q4 with a 11 years old boy.  Have read a bit on expat.com forum before, and knowing that there are few options for applying residency such as retirement visa or resort development or property purchase scheme, etc. Please help advise reliable consultancy firms that we can seek for feasibility.  Can a person with retirement visa run a business?  If not, can his wife run instead...?

We will plan to fly to Mauritius this June for exploring the places, seeing schools and potential areas for living (ie good mix w/ local people and expat).    We would like to schedule with schools visits and consultancy firms beforehand. For schools, we were able to contact them, but seems that it is quite difficult to locate the consultancy firms for landing and immigration visa enquiries :)

Look forward to hearing from you guys. Thank you

Your question:
1) Can a person with retirement visa run a business?

Answer:
My answer to your question assumes that by "run a business" you mean Director of the company that represents the business in Mauritius.

If a person is on a residence permit for retired non-citizens, he/she cannot be executive director of a company. Retired means "not working (chilling on the beach & enjoying the sunshine :-) ). Running a business is work. Thus, that's not allowed.

Your question:
2) If not, can his wife run instead...?

Answer:
If his wife is living in Mauritius as his dependent on his residence permit for retired non-citizens, she can't be an executive director as she's not allowed to work in Mauritius. If she wants to work as Director of a business, she will have to apply for an occupation permit and satisfy the requirements for such application.

Hope that helps.

Cheers
GJ
