business type questions.

Post new topic

JBlack

Afternoon all.

Couldnt find a "business" specific section, so I'll just stick this 'ere..

What would be considered a "good" salary for a fluent english-speaking mauritian, in an "office-type" professional role?? Obviously I've done some digging on the internet, but the figures seem to vary.

I appreciate its hard to be specific without giving info on a particular trade, but I'm just looking for general figures.

Any ideas??

Hello JBlack :)

I guess it would easier if you could tell us the job title :/

it would probably be recruitment consultant or something very similar to it.

To ask in a different way

would a mauritian national, on a annual salary that equates to "approximately" 22000 rupee's per month,(not including achievable bonus's) with 25 days paid holiday per year, working 1pm to 10pm Mon-Fri at Cybercity (with transport home in the evening provided if neccessary) feel that they are getting a fair deal for a sales related role??

Last time I worked there was as a teenager, and although I've visited and occasionaly lived there since then, I've had my "tourist" hat on, so I'm a little out of touch with the market.

Strawb

Do you mean 264,000 ru per year? That works out at about £6k per year. I'm not sure that would be a great deal even with the lower cost of living?

JBlack

my fault, got my conversions all wrong. Was trying to work out several different currencies all at the same time, to save myself the confusion, the GBP Sterling amount is about £800 or so prior to any bonus's etc.

So, when taken with the package in my previous message, is that a decent amount for a citizen?

Strawb

Thats still less than £10k a year although the cheaper cost of living would help. Not sure if you could sustain a similar standard of living as the UK though. I'm no expert though as not even arrived myself yet!

JBlack

its a local salary, not an expat salary.

whats a "recruitment consultant" exactly?  if it's IT recruiting, that's really really low. the owner/firm are pocketing way too much.

as an example, over here, your salary is based on a % of candidate's salary that you fill. so, if you fill a $100k per annum salaried position, you make $10k and the candidate gets 90. If you fill one position per month, you make $120k. then you have to half that to $60k after you take off your pensions and taxes and expenses.  if you incorporate and use a pro accoutnant, you would 3/4 it at $80 to $90 depending on what you write off.

anyways, the low end is

60,000.00 CAD     =     1,720,219.07 MUR

thats after you paying for your own pension & taxes.

That's not how its done at all, the candidate doesnt pay anything, the client pay's the recruitment agency a fee based on % of the package on offer. It's one of the few things I know a little bit about, having run a relatively well-known (in the industry) recruitment agency in the UK for the 15 years.

yes. the hiring firm pays your fee. thats what was posted.

anyways, if "you" are the agency and scouting for recruiters a decent profit uplift is 30% to 40% max.

i have been in the IT industry for 15 yrs as well doing every from from consulting to IT recruting as well.
