You are allowed to apply after 5 and then they will roll around laughing a bit and say no. They sell them for 800k so don’t just give them away.

I have a friend and neighbour who is Welsh, British, has been in Gozo for 7 years and now has Maltese citizenship. He only paid a nominal sum.

Your friend has probably got permanent residency as opposed to citizenship which does cost a lot of money.

Could be, I'll find out, but he does now have a Maltese passport.

If he has a Maltese passport he must have citizenship perhaps one of his parents or grandparent were Maltese, if not he would have had to pay the full amount.
