Change of employer under work permit B

Post new topic

um89arun

Hello,
I have been living and working in Belgium for 3 years now for the same employer with a B type work permit. I am considering switching jobs soon and I would like to know what is the process to obtain a new work permit if I change my employer and under the new combined permit law how long does it take to obtain a new work permit ? Is there a possibility to expedite the process ?

Hello,

The issuance of a work permit is only for one employer. So if you change employers, the entire process will have to be repeated.

The fact of the new legislation does not change anything in this case.

Give a deadline is impossible following the congestion of the administrative services of the state.

There is no system to speed up the process.

Hi Phipiemar,
Thanks a lot for your reply. Do you happen to know anyone who recently changed their employer and how long it took for them to obtain a new work permit ? I would like to collect as much information possible on this topic before I talk to my employer.

Hi,

no, I do not know

But I do not see the reason to collect other information. The situation is clear. Your potential new employer will have to present a complete file. So you know very well the documents that you had to provide ...

I know what documents are required to file for the WP I am just trying to figure out what is the average processing time for a new WP. My new job wants me to start in 3 weeks. If the processing time is going to take 2 months then I have to inform my employer accordingly

aneesh

Yes, it takes 8 weeks or more. There are some threads in the forum that discusses recent experience of applicants. Average lead time is 8 weeks. It can be more, it can be less. It all depends on the workload of the ministry.

As I already said before

Give a deadline is impossible following the congestion of the administrative services of the state.

8 weeks is the theorical situation...

The first time my company applied for WP, it took 3 and half months. I should clarify here that there were some mistakes done by us in the application and thus it took so long... When we applied for renewal last year (this time all in line with the process and requirements), it still took 2 and a half months.
To summarise, 3 weeks is IMPOSSIBLE.

Hi,

I'm in a similar situation, I'm working with a work permit B here in Belgium and thinking about to change my employer.

I've one question, when my new employer starts the process of my new work permit the old one will be valable until the next one get approved?

So I can still work for my old employer during this "8 weeks" that I'll be waiting for the new one?

Thanks
