Another Visa question

Post new topic

Reviral

I have booked a trip to the Philippines but in my haste managed to book 34 days, flights paid for. I don't have time to get another passport photo, bank statements, and a notarized signature plus the time it takes to process and return the visa. And I don't live anywhere near London to be able to go to the Embassy let alone wait the 3 days to have it processed.
I'm hoping someone has had a similar experience and can help.
A. I'm flying from the UK, will emirates allow me to board the flight to Cebu without the correct visa.
B. If they do, can I extend my stay whilst I'm in Cebu, which is only for 1 day?
C. Do I just pay the hefty fee to change the flight?
This is my first visit and I don't want to get turned away, stopped mid-way or just get told I can't board the flight here in the UK.

Any help will be appreciated

Gareth

The Visa, lots of post here on this topic.

I take it that you are a UK citizen?   If not check on there department of immigration site to see what you visa situation is.  If yes (you are a UK citizen)I am wondering what sort of Visa you got in the UK for the Philippines, generally the first 30 days you are automatically granted entry based on a visa on arrival  (No one will stamp your passport on arrival, so don't be alarmed)

A Visa is valid for 30 day.  No you will not get offload without out already having a longer visa in passport, most of us don't have any.

When you are here you will need to go the Department of immigration to obtain a visa, it is pretty straight forward, prior to the 30 days running out.  Some people say you can get the extension at the airport when you arrive, I have tried with no luck, that does
not mean it is not possible, just that there was no one there when I asked for it.

Stop panicking!   Read the above  from pej1111 carefully.    I assume you are a UK citizen and you have a return ticket issued.    Your first 30 days are on a free Visa entry.   You can simply obtain a 30 day extension while here in the Philippines.
If the airline balks at your departure point on your return date, simply have them change the date of the return ticket.  However, it is very unlikely to be an issue.   On arrival, If Philippine immigration balks at the return ticket date, (if they even check) , have them issue a 30 day extension at the airport!
Just a small correction on the above comment however; You will  likely have your passport stamped on arrival by Philippine Immigration.

Thank you Pej1111 and Bob604.
Yes, I am a UK citizen.
Yes, I have a return ticket booked which is for 34 days after I arrive.

The panic was caused by reading a past post and someone saying the airline may refuse you passage if you don't have the correct visa. Not sure if it was on this site, was doing a general google trawl.
I agree with you, upon thinking about it more, I can't see Emirates refusing me passage. As you say I may be able to get a stamp on my way through immigration. If not getting one in Cebu is possible.
I think it all comes down to if I get refused entry into the Philippines and  Emirates brought me in, they are the ones that will have to remove me.
But as you say, when I pass through immigration there is a very high chance they will just see that I have a return ticket and let me through without checking the dates.

Thanks again

Hi,
It will not be a problem. I have flown with Etihad many times on a 90 day return ticket and neither the airline or Immigration have ever challenged this.  You will be given the normal 30 day visa on arrival. If you are asked about your return date they may extend 4 days on entry or tell you to go to an immigration office to get the extension. You best go at least 4 to 5 working days before the original visa expires because on a few occasions they have kept my passport overnight to process instead of doing it while you wait.  They will charge if you want the express processing, normally within 30 to 35 minutes but I have normally had to wait only 30 minutes to 1 hour at most.
Take a good photocopy of your Passport Bio page, the one with the photo plus the page that has your entry stamp into the Philippines. If you forget they will charge 30 pesos to do it for you.
Also check where your local immigration office is. Depending on your travel plans you may well find you will need to travel far to get to one. No prior appointments needed but I find it’s best to go when they open in the morning to beat any queues. An internet search will tell the opening times of your local office.
Good luck, relax and enjoy your visit!

I just overstayed my visa for about 10 days (again) last month, but didn’t want to take the chance of having to wait 3 hours in an immigration office like the last time. I went to immigration at the airport, of course they noted the entry date plus the date the visa expired in my passport. They sent me to a window where I paid for the extension plus a 1,000 peso penalty. It took all of 10 minutes—well worth the penalty fee.

I would not want to proceed to Philippine airport exit immigration with an expired visa.  Here we have a very lucky experience, but the officer could just as easily denied passage out of the Philippines and sent you to downtown immigration office to deal with the over stay ....  Philippine immigration website explains this very clearly ...
