Hi Guys,

I would like to know how easy is to get married with a Local Girl, and if that has to follow religius tradition, if that gives you any advantages on Citizenship or Permanent Residency or permit to do business there?

Hey!

You'll get permanent residency, but if you get divorced it's only valid until six months after the divorce. You can apply for citizenship after a couple of years (five I think).

You're allowed to work in Mauritius if you're married to a Mauritian.

It's pretty "easy" to get married, but it does require a lot of documents, such as birth certificate, a document from the police in your home country stating whether or not you have a criminal record, medical documents (you need to get tested for HIV and get a lung xray), a letter from you fiancee etc. Contact the passport and immigration office, they'll give you a list of which documents to bring!

You'll have to get married in Port Louis civilly, and then you can organize a religious ceremony too if you want, but it's the civil wedding in Port Louis which is legally binding.

Cheers and good luck with your love life :-)
