Native Plants and Gardening

Post new topic

AnnaNGlenn

I'm moving to Vienna in the fall and am trying to find resources on plants that are native to Europe. Any recommendations? I've gotten into gardening with native plants to support local ecosystems, but my expertise is limited to the mid-Atlantic region of the US. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Forum :)

This might be of interest to you. It's in PDF format so can be printed into a useful booklet.

There are books out there that specialize in particular subjects like shrubs, Evergreens etc...

If you have specific questions feel free to ask away. I am green fingers, raised in Britain and now living in Austria for 10+ years. I've never lived without a garden. ;)Ìý

I hope that is of help.

Back again, Just remembered there are some lovely gardens in Vienna one in particular < The link is in English. The site is very useful and will answer many of the questions you may have.

@SimCityAT Hello, SimCityAT,
I came across this question today - I have the same question - but your answer didn't quite work for me. The link leads to WWF Hungary, with no information about Austrian native plants. Looking at other websites, I get information about Edelweiss and other Alpine plants, which doesn't help me in Vienna. And I've been to the Uni Wien Botanical Gardens, but haven't asked this question there. I was hoping to find answers without travelling. I don't want to now what kinds of flowers and plants the Austrians like or that grow in gardens here. I want to know which plants and flowers are native to Austria (Vienna). Any specific Ideas? Thank you for any suggestions.
