Buying/Living On A Boat

Post new topic

Quick query does anybody have any experience or info about living in & buying a small boat in Malta. The info I'm looking for is mooring fees, utilities costs, & any restrictions.

There are a few live aboards but most places will not allow you to live aboard.  You need to be inside the Grand Harbor to have shelter from the weather in the winter.  Its very expensive.  Many boat owners keep their boats in Sicily as its less cost - Its far more than rent on land.  In general the whole of the med is very expensive for moorings.  Its not a low cost option like in the UK, France or the Netherlands.

Outside of the grand harbor you can set your own mooring very cheaply (around 60 euro in Gozo) and its a low cost option for summer moorings.  But none of the other bays are sheltered enough for the winter.

Thanks timcob for the speady reply. I was looking at moorings at some of the small fishing villages or mooring off land at night. Toying around with ideas at present. Again thank you for your speedy reply.

You will need a permanent address for your residence card so don’t know if living on a boat would
be acceptable.

Thanks GozoMo, probably will rent to start off with.
