Choosing Electricity Provider - Lampiris / Engie / Luminous

Post new topic

Rohit45

Hello,

I have recently shifted to Evere Brussels.
Previously, I stayed with BBF where the rent was paid which included utility charges, so this is my first experience.

I live in an apartment with is approx 55 m2 and the heating is also electric, no Gas in my apartment.

I got a fixed quotation for 3 yrs from Lampiris and every month I pay around 81 euros.

Have I made a correct decision.
Also, in case, based on the inputs in this forum, If I want to change a provider which is having promotions and which has a better rate, Can I change my provider immediately ?

Also, I see a lot of promotions from Luminous, is it worth going for, I am pretty new to these and other online compare is not actually helping.

Thanks a lot in Advance.

Hi,

A monthly charge of 81 euros can give you a very bad surprize at reception of year final invoice... My nephew had the same and he had to pay +/-1000€ more...

you can change it every year to take advantage of promotions at one supplier or another.

Have a look on specialized comparative website for choose the good promotion in your case... They are helplfull if you use them correctly.

Ohh.. thanks for the heads up Phipiemar.

How do I keep a track of the bills or usage per month because as I was informed, there will be only a bill which would be annual.

Hi,

This is precisely the trap of monthly payments too cheap. The electricity consumption survey is done just once a year. And it is at this point that the account is closed for the issue of the last bill of adjustment.

The only way to know permanently its consumption is to ask the installation of a prepayment electric meter.

The budget counter is à la carte
What is a budget meter? Only installed in Flanders and Wallonia, this meter is similar to a conventional meter but it has an additional feature. It has a "prepayment" function that reminds you of refills for mobile phones.

In practical terms, you receive a card that you top up for the amount you want. It allows you to consume electricity and/or gas, depending on the type of budget meter you have.

Rest assured, installing a budget meter will have no influence on the use of your household equipment and on the available power.

This device is placed by your distribution network manager according to the situation encountered: either you have made the request (possible only in Wallonia), or your supplier has requested it. This second situation occurs when you are having difficulty paying your electricity and/or gas bill.

The advantages of the budget meter are:

Better management of your energy budget: you pay in advance for your consumption;
Better monitoring of your consumption: you know the credit you have left;
The choice of your supplier is still possible.
With such a meter, you no longer receive intermediate invoices but a regularization bill once a year. This takes into account the amounts reloaded via your card and adjusts the price difference between the one displayed in the meter and the amount applied by your supplier.

This way, there is no difference in rates if you use a budget meter. Your drinks are charged at the same price as if you had a conventional meter.

That was very informative, thanks Phipiemar

hi,

this is very helpful. I just had a very unpleasant surprise with my yearly billing from engie (i even made a new topic here on that subject). Could you please give more detail where can I apply for this meter?

thank you so much!

The market price is dynamic in Belgium, meaning that the price of the kw/h is different each month for b2c customers.
The only thing you've to keep in mind, is that once you subscribe a utility contract, you'll have 1 year of discounts as a new customer, then you'll fall back on normal (high) price base on yearly tacit renewal.
Indeed, you've to change utility provider every years if you want to benefit from low price, only "new" customers get discounts.

You can use any compare tool on the web to know which provider is currently the cheapest depending on your commune.

Thanks Phipiemar! Very useful

Paying €81 per month for electric heating in a 55 m2 apartment doesn't sound too unreasonable, especially with your current setup from Lampiris. It's great that you've locked in a rate for three years; this can often protect you from sudden price increases.

In terms of changing providers, usually, you can switch if you find a better deal, but watch out for any cancellation fees associated with breaking a . It's wise to calculate any potential fees against the savings a new deal might offer.
