Investing in Thailand

Post new topic

Diksha

Hello everyone,

During your expatriation in Thailand, you might have been made aware of interesting investment schemes (local or international). Whether one wants to make money grow, protect oneself or prepare for retirement, investment is always an attractive option. It is, however, never free of risk. Would you, therefore, like to share some practical information for other expats and expats to be?

Is the Thai economy open to foreign investment? Do local authorities encourage investment (through formalities, tax etc.)?

What are the promising sectors to invest and do business in Thailand?

Who do you turn to for information before investing your money? (organisation, professional, lawyer, consultant)

According to the sectors of activity and the projects, what budget should be foreseen for an investment in Thailand?

What do you think are the pitfalls to avoid and what advice would you give someone who wants to invest?

Thanks in advance for your feedback,
Diksha

Until Thais change their attitude and government  .... just DON'T !

The Thai economy will crash, wait .... then swoop in.

For now, keep your money away from Thailand.

Thai economy is in recession since last trimester, even with a gdp inflated by debt financed investments.
The rate of the baht is uncontrolled and exports have significantly weakened.
Last point is that the country is run by a military junta, which spurs corruption.
So no, it's not the good time for invest in Thailand !

I did invest in Thailand with the idea to stay there once retired with my Thai wife.
This is not really the good time for a foreigner to invest in Thailand, as the money is really over evaluated, which makes the investment very high with high risk of loss in short or middle term.
Moreover, the situation in Thailand is politically worse every day.
The current king Rama 10 issues, the current government legitimacy questionned internally and externally to Thailand are not helping the markets confidence.
They still have however a good annual growth rate.
We can however be fully confident in the Thai people to solve democratically their issues, and remain the trustable and smily people they always have been.
I created as well a company there, not yet active.
I recommend to do it through a lawyer speaking your language. The procedure is quite simple.

The Thai government injects money into the system to keep it afloat. Even though done very creatively, it never works in the long run. Besides giving a false sense that the economy is OK, The crash is invetible. Looking forward to the big fall since it will be a great place to invest right after it.
