Car tickets

Can someone explain how it's "suppose to work"...I know what I have seen so curious.

If you do not pay as well and with rental cars.

Guest2022

Normally one would get stopped and given a ticket but DIGESETT are also taking plate numbers and issuing fines for infractions and if you have any you have to pay at Banreserva.

They will stay on your record until settled and in future one will not be able to renew one's car license with fines unpaid.

You can check online of you have any traffic fines using your cedula or passport number:

Car hire companies will bill the credit card for any fines picked up during the hire, with the terms of hire stating the hirer is responsible for all infractions and consequences.

Very helpful and anywhere to find what fines should be for violations?

The fines according to the recent law are listed here but I am not sure if they are being fully applied yet.

I hope I haven't told this story before here -

It shows the efficiency of the new systems being installed....
Driving violations being an early step

My citizenship application called for a DR police report - Bill of Good Standing, if you will.... done , perfectly fine.

My application dragged a bit and the 90 day validity period for that report expired.
No Problem, rewrite it...

Nope - Not so fast
The new system had been installed....
No more clean record as 2018.....
they had a 2013 speeding ticket - unpaid!

I remember the ticket and - Yes - unpaid

So, the new systems are very accurate....

Just a word of caution - is why I report it.
Not to be trifled with

That is the funniest document for traffic fines yet ( … /22-multas).  What country is that for?  jajaja Oh, the DR...are they planning on hiring an extra 2 or 3 million traffic controllers to enforce it???  I can easily report most of those infractions every time I drive down the road.  Even the ones driving right by Digesett...  I would love to see some real laws and actual enforcement in this country but it is almost non-existent.  Even when someone without a driver's license drives into you (their fault no license) causing 1000's of dollars in damage, your insurance company still hold you accountable and the police do nothing to the person that should be put in jail... In fact when we asked what would be done they said they "might" fine her.  Ok, I say how much?  Oh 1000 pesos...jajaja  Can't even follow their own laws.  Just for the record, it was my Dominican wife that got into the accident so they weren't applying different rules to a foreigner.  This is the wild wild west, won't be changing anytime soon.  In fact after the next election they will probably change everything they have done and start over...

Absolutely right. Laws are not the issue, enforcement is.

Hello, we received today our first car ticket (fine) in DR (too much speed). The fine seemed too high for us, so as policeman said we can pay it to him or in the office in.... Santo Domingo (in Tribunal or something like this) so w told him that we can pay it in capital.

We were caught at Las Terrenas and is so strange for us, that we can't pay it on another place.

We don't understand why with normal car ticket we must go to Santo Domingo to pay it. On the other hand, we don't received NOTHING (any paper/bill) and we didn't sign anything that we agree for this.

Policeman said us that we need to drive specially to Santo Domingo with our drive license to pay it. Is it possible?

We don't have problem to pay it, even if we need to drive to capital, but we don't receive any bill or nothing, so we don't know what to do now. It was our first police control, so we don't know how it is looking here.

Firstly you can only be stopped and fined for a traffic infraction by DIGISETT, the traffic police. Regular police cannot issue traffic infractions. They should have  issued a ticket.

You can check if you indeed have an infraction which needs to be paid to the public ministry using the attached link:

If you have a traffic infraction and you agree you can pay online or banreserva as above:

If you disagree with the traffic infraction you will need to go to Santo Domingo or regional DIGISETT office to dispute.

If you don't pay a traffic fine you cannot renew the marbete, obtain new insurance, transfer vehicle ownership nor get a certificate of good conductand possibly more.

To clarify, we don't have any problems with paying. We don't just want to support corruption / pay false penalties.

First at all, the policeman took our local driving license when he asked us for his ID, we thought we should show our passport, but he didn't want to.

We checked this site (we don't have idea what he number he can put there with driving license, but we checked few) and we don't have any car fee to pay it. We go also in next week to Banco de Reservas to check it (maybe they will see it on our name and surname), but we think that he only want money for us, because in the end he didn't give us any ticket.

Thank you for your help!

Just type in your cedula in the first link above and show you are not a robot. Within seconds you will be told if you have any outstanding infractions to pay.

It is that simple without going to banreserva.

I just checked my status. It is so quick.

If you didn't get a ticket, in writing, then it was an attempt to extort money out of you!

I've been pulled over twice for speeding. On both occasions the Amet officers asked for a little cash. $500 pesos and I was on my way.

Tippj

They stop you for speeding but you see a woman with 4 little kids on the back of a motorcycle

DominicanadaMike

Tippj:  You have money...they don't...DR philosophy! lol
