Moving to Cairo

Post new topic

Hello everyone

I am due to move to Cairo in February. It is my first time in Egypt. Lived abroad before, in muslim countries as well European countries. I am moving with the entire family (wife and daughter). I am very concerned with the school options for her. She is 10 years old and follows the British curriculum.

Just wanted to know if you can give me some tips about getting around, security, which areas are worth and average monthly costs of living. The salary is approx. 3800 euros after taxes ( maybe it is not a fortune to live in New Cairo where the job is located). I see that international schools tuition fees are quite high,

Hi Tony,

I would first of all advise you to go through the Living in Egypt guide, there are a few articles that might help you to get a clear idea on life in Cairo.

I also invite you to go through the various topics in the forum, it might help you to find some further information.

Thank you,

Priscilla

Greeting Tony Welcome soon in Egypt,

with the salary you mention I guess you can find  a good apartment in a fine compound in New Cairo, I advise you to visit the OLX website to find the approximate cost of Rent

about international school it will cost, I agree with you, you need to communicate with Britch schools to know the yearly fees average

Note that: 1 Euro =  18.75 Egyptian Pound

Good luck :)

I forget to tell that:  be mindful of brokers, they take commissions or first month or half depends on the agreement, but having the owner directly will make you avoid paying them to rent, usually you pay the month and one-month insurance, but sometimes they might try to make you pay 2 to 3-month insurance plus the month you're renting it

thank you four your response. Still some concerns regarding schools, and the travel distance from the job to the school. Definitely, we have to live in New Cairo, and the job is 20 min to the school approx. Everything is in New Cairo. I already tried some school, but no response so far.

Also, I see that everything has to be translated into Arabic for making the residence permit.
