When you say you can travel to and from the EU without issue, that is true for holiday purposes but unless you already hold a residence card, since Brexit, you will be treated as any other TCN.
To get a work permit you first need to find a job, as it is the prospective employer who applies for your work permit.

hi we actually have lived in Gozo for 3 years originally from the states Cape Cod Massachusetts.
Since my husband is British we came before Brexit & now have our 10 year residency. The question is聽 our 36 year old daughter wants to come & live here. She has an American & British passport. She has been a teacher in the states & has her Masters in special Education. How can we make this happen?

Welcome to the Forum, your daughter can apply to come here as a TCN, I don't know if her qualifications will be acceptable here but would assume she needs to speak maltese. Anybody who comes from out of the EU are treated as TCN.

A TCN (Third Country National) is a person that is not a Maltese, or an EU citizen.

Several schools here with zero Maltese, even some teaching to a US ciruculum.

Reach out to some of them and see if they are looking. With so many foreigners leaving it鈥檚 quite possible that a position is open that she might have unique qualifications for.

Welcome to the forum, where you will be staying does not make any difference to what is required.
You will need the appropriate paper work ie vaccine passport and information on where you will be staying.聽 As this information can change it's advisable to keep checking on line. Not too sure about the PCR test, someone will be advising you on here, good luck.

Welcome to the Forum, since Brexit it's not so easy to come and retire here as you are now TCN's
(Third country nationals).
I don't know of anywhere near Sliema for your test but you can get it done at the airport here.

Why do you wish to have a PCR test, it is not a requirement here and for your return a Rapid Antigen Test is all that is required, which you can have at the airport by appointment, plus a prebooked PCR test for day 2 after your return to UK. Full vaccination is the requirement to come here unless under 12.

Now I'm seriously thinking of returning to the pleasant way of life I encountered there..

You will notice a difference in the island compared to when you were here, still a lovely place to live.
Now that you are out of the EU it's not quite so easy to come and live here,聽 good luck with your plans.

I remember Bournemouth has a beach much better than all the beaches here in Gozo. However, the life style and the culture make the difference. After Britain left the EU you are considered a TCN.
This makes it more difficult to settle down over here again. Any way, the easiest way to settle down over here is to claim your Maltese ancestry. Find your Maltese ancestors and you will be welcomed like a lost son. Good luck for your venture

I'm currently in Malta on a visitors visa from with New Zealand passport but have resided in Australia for ten years and looking into extending my stay. So far, I know I have to obtain a job offer to be eligible for a single permit. Can anyone advise options? I've signed up with employment agencies and applied for work to no avail 馃槥 Currently NZ and Australia are on lockdown with the spread of Delta virus and going home is proving to be a challenge with no flights available till December or at ridiculous prices of $12k+ 馃う馃従鈥嶁檧锔�

I've tried asking this question before but no-one seems to know the answer!

Yes Bournemouth is promoted as having 7 miles of golden sands! But unfortunately the weather is not as good as in Malta!

Hi,

I don't have any Maltese ancestry as such, but my uncle and family were stationed in Malta during the war - he was a chief petty officer in the Royal Navy and they lived in Valletta - I'm not quite sure why, but I knew that he was a survivor when his ship was sunk and that he spent 3 days in the water until he was rescued.
I doubt that that would help me in the outcome of聽 - what seems may be a bit of a struggle to come and live on Gozo!

The problem I see with that is that if you are on a tourist visa, the moment you say you are looking for work or if you find a job, you cease to be a tourist and are obliged to leave the country.
If you find a job, your prospective employer is the one who applies for your work permit but as you are no longer a tourist you have to leave the country till that is approved and issued.
I am not 100% sure that is the rule but it might be worth checking it out discreetly rather being fortunate enough to find a job only to be told by officials that you have to leave in the interim.
Also if you can get round that problem but later lose your job, you only have 2 weeks to get another job and another work permit or be told to leave.

Wow! Thanks for the feedback. It makes sense to leave the country and wait for visa approval. Damn! I'm in the worse situation being stuck overseas with Australia and NZ on lockdown and caps on inbound flights have halved since I arrived last month. Thank you for the insight. Might have to look at other avenues of not successful with a job offer and try getting back home.

Hi Keith,
I mentioned this topic because on this platform are a lot of people who want to claim Maltese ancestry.
Of course this is not applicable to everybody. As far as I remember the Maltese are quite generous about tourism. To my knowledge people can stay here as tourists for up to seven months.
I am not sure if this has changed after the Brexit. At least this gives you ample time to check out the financial requirements to settle down in Malta. If it is still the seven months you are allowed to stay you can have a little trip to Italy between and the seven months will start again. In the meantime you have learned whether this country is still welcoming you and your money. Good luck
By the way one of my ancestors was a Maltese Order Knight from France, but that does not help me neither.
