Lost job but single permit still valid

H Triple

Hello everyone,

I lost my job last year in June.

I hold a single permit which will expire in 2022.

I didn't receive any letter indicate I need to leave Belgium in 90 days if I couldn't find a new employer.

Now my ID card still valid, I found a new job and last month I use it in the city hall to get the criminal and residence certificate for applying for my new single permit.

Does anyone know why like that?

Because I checked many people say it can't have a gap between two jobs, now the gap almost 1 year I'm wondering if I would get trouble to get a new work permit.

Thank you so much.

Hi H Triple,
I don't know how you did not receive any update on the cancellation of the permit. Perhaps, because your employer forgot to send email/cancel the permit in the Department of Work/Economy of Belgium.

I hope that you receive the new permit soon and can work in Belgium.
It will be nice if you can inform me about the status of your situation via message.
Good luck

Hi Rikkal,
Thanks for the reply.
I have received the new single permit today.
Really fast just 6 working days, Brussels region.

Did they notice that your former employer forgot to to cancel your application? did you apply for new single permit or renewal?

thanks!

Hi, can somebody help me please regarding my case.

I had a work in Belgium and i quit due to hard and bad working conditions. I had a 90 days period to find a new job and that is finished on december. But now I found a new job in Belgium. So my question is should I start the visa procedure all over again or in can use the old visa that is still valid. Also I have a Belgium ID with a national number. Do you think that a layer can help in order to shorten the waiting procedures and to continue with the old visa and ID.

thanks to all

Work & Residence Permit Status – Since your 90-day period to find a new job ended in December, your right to stay and work may have expired. However, if your residence card (Belgium ID with national number) is still valid, you might not need to start from scratch but rather apply for a change of employer within the same permit category.

Reusing Your Current Visa & ID – Your valid Belgian ID and national number mean you are still registered in the system, which could help streamline the process. But you need to check with the Immigration Office or your local commune (gemeente/stadskantoor) to confirm whether you need to restart the application or if your new employer can directly apply for a work permit extension.

Legal Assistance – A lawyer specializing in immigration or labor law can definitely help. They can:

Check if you can continue using your current visa or if a new application is needed.

Speed up the process by ensuring all paperwork is in order and advocating on your behalf.

Guide you on the best legal path to avoid complications.

Next Steps:

Contact your local commune or the Immigration Office to check your current status.

Ask your new employer if they can apply for a work permit for you.

Consult an immigration lawyer to see if there’s a way to continue under your existing permit and minimize waiting time.

Hi,

In my opinion, since your ID is still valid and wasn’t withdrawn after 90 days, you’re lucky.

When you get a new job, your new company will apply for a work permit at the local Social Immigration Office. If approved, they will forward your case to IBZ, and you will receive Annex 46 (or 49). You can check the status of this document yourself by logging into the International Social Immigration Office using your ID card.

B    Bring the Annex 46 to commune in order to change the ID card

If your commune asks you to come to take the ID back during the processing the new working permit, come to show them a new offer

The old company never forgets to cancel your contract to the Social Office, you can see it on the day you quit your job on the system, IBZ sometimes delays processing cases, which is why some IDs remain valid beyond 90 days.

Good luck!
