Good afternoon
Believe Tagus Bay is on Oeiras area, its relatively close to Lisbon and a really good council to for a mid age gentleman like you, with lots to do every day
Theatres, arts exhibition, fashion you name it Oeiras haves it.
Beautiful beaches and close to Sintra.
I would advise to check the surrounding areas, the neighbourhoods around can ruin the nicest condo as Oeiras haves a few council areas with bad history attached to it
Make sure you talk with the locals, local cafe is always a good source of information
All the best
Nuno

Hi Gelwood, Welcome :)

Artists' studios: Alcochete/Barreiro (in a old industrial complex)

Cultural Offer: Sintra has more cultural offer than Alcochete. Alcochete's advantage is that it has a direct boat to the centre of Lisbon (from Montijo to Cais do Sodré) and Vasco da Gama bridge to the Parque das Nações, where there is a huge cultural offer all year.

Swimming pools: available in both places you have mentioned.

Golf Courts:

Near Alcochete (Lisbon South Bay), you have: Montado, Aroeira, Quinta do Peru, Ribagolfe, Santo Estêvão.

Near Sintra (West Lisbon) you have:  Belas, Estoril, Jamor, Lisbon, Oeiras, Oitavos, Penha Longa, Quinta da Beloura, Quinta da Marinha.

Hi Nuno, Gelwood is referring to Lisbon South Bay/ Alcochete (!) , not to Oeiras....

Gelwood

Thank you so  for your replies. I feel  Sintra is  greener,  and the Atlantic mist and all that although I know, is the weather really  cold  in Sintra , like British weather. I know I will need an english speaking community  to bond with and an art community.    I was reffering to the Tagus bay development in Alcochete.

It depends what you want to do. Lisbon is the main city and the offer of activities is higher there. Alcochete and all other areas in the South side of river Tagus(Tejo) are satellite areas :-( but , in my point of view, they are much nicer to live.  If you have car, you can move around and get in Lisbon in a few minutes (except in the traffic jam hours). The public transport offer is not much and will limit your movements. If you are looking for a quite area close to the river or sea, also have  look at seixal and Costa da Caparica.
