Retirement Visa??.maybe too late for some.

Post new topic

A Retirement Visa has always been mentioned/ discussed in Expat Forums.
This post is a bit long winded?.but I like long winded stuff ?

However , due to changes in technology & the fast rollout of Digital payment systems & Cashless Debit Cards you?ll find that a certain group of retirees will be caught up in these changes.

Australia at the moment already has a Cashless Debit Card for people receiving Govt pensions , unemployment benefits, family assistance etc?.which are mostly Tax payer funded Welfare payments.
80% of the funds go to the Card for Essential consumer staples , food, clothing , utilities, school fees etc?.and 20% goes to their bank as cash.

Main reason is certain regions, suburbs & localities with high levels of youth unemployment, domestic violence, child neglectÌý , burglary etc ?.usually are alcohol & drug related.Ìý ÌýSo , by limiting the payments available to essentials ?.police & welfare agencies have noticed an improvement.

Now , the gubberment want to rollout this programme across ALL forms of welfare payments.Ìý ÌýThey want to make sure Tax payers money is spent wisely .Ìý Good idea ya reckon.?

So?how does this affect an Overseas RetirementÌý Visa. ???

Well, those cards can only be used in Australia?..and the proposed rollout was planned for 2022.Ìý
Last week in Parliament, the opposition stated they?d oppose the idea?but the cards are already in use.Ìý Some punters think the %percentage ratio will change ,,maybe 65/35 cash ,,but you can be assured this will be the future.Ìý Ìý Ìý

There?s always been arguments about pensioners Living large in cheap Asian countries on Tax payers money.Ìý ÌýPretty soon, with demographics changing & an ageing population, they?ll be nearly as many on Pensions as there are working & paying Tax to support them.Ìý ÌýGovts don?t want that money spent outside the country.Ìý ÌýIn Australia , there?s MORE Greeks, Italians , pommies etc ?.that bring pension money INTO the country due to dual Social Security treaties ??it more than balances out the funds leaving.Ìý ÌýBUT?.when these Cards take over??it?s irrelevant.

A lot of retirees here , Thailand & BaliÌý basically on Govt Aged pensions.Ìý ÌýIt?ll be a hard slog on 20% of it.
Self funded retirees won?t be affected tho.
Ìý
A guy I know in the Industry fully expects this to be the future of welfare payments throughout most developed countries.Ìý Ìý Sounds a bit like Big Brother controlling how & where money is spent, but we are in changing times & digital payments are the future.Ìý

So maybe the Retirement Visa , if it ever comes will be useless to a lot of people , especially in SE Asia .

We live in a changing world now.Ìý Maybe it?s the Big Reset.

Remember Klaus Schwab?..the bald guy at the Davos Economic summit?nursing the white Cat.
He said??y?all have nothing?but you?ll be happy?.

PS?.sorry about all those question marks?.something wrong with this keyboard?..Maybe the guy with the White Cat is hacking my iPad. ?

There's nothing wrong with your keyboard and your iPad.Ìý The newest bug in the system, which started yesterday, is the cause.

If you want to receive the age pension from Australia while living in Vietnam permanently, chances are it will never happen. There are 3 countries in Asia you can do that, Korea, Japan and India

There are 31 countries, only 3 in Asia , most in Europe .
But when the payments inevitably go to Cashless EFTPOS cards it won?t matter since the cards are only accepted at designated retailers & service providers.

Social engineering at its best. Now with QR code?s being used everywhere, the ?big club? will know where you are, how long you were there, what you bought etc.Ìý ÌýBar codes , card numbers, bank account numbers, tax file numbers etc?.?they? probably know more about you, than you do.?

Last time back home I was walking around a shopping centre looking at stuff & then getting emails, and SMS messages from shops I?d been in , but hadn?t bought anything or spoke to anybody.

Google location services on your phone?..tracks you.Ìý

Scary huh?..someone?s probably watching me now.Ìý Actually there is?..there?s a nosey old woman in my building that goes thru my garbage can, knows where I?ve been , where I eat, what I buy etc?

She?s probably in the ? big club?.Ìý ÌýGoogle YouTube?.George Carlin?s BIG CLUB.Ìý ÌýIt explains everything.

I don't think Australia's (proposed?) pension policies would be popular in other countries.Ìý I also doubt that most governments are overly concerned with pension money going abroad.Ìý It can't be a large amount -- in 2019 US Social Security beneficiaries living abroad numbered only 431,883, about 0.008 of the US retired population.Ìý It's probably a higher percentage for European countries, though.

GuestPoster1236

Yeah?the numbers are only minimal for Aussies on Govt pensions living abroad also.

It?s not a government policy to hinder those living abroad?.it?s just that
access to funds Via digital payment systems that will only be local.Ìý Ìý

It?s just unfortunate that those wishing to retire abroad will be caught out due to the technology.Ìý

Since COVID ,..Health Insurance will be another hurdle.Ìý Older retirees wishing to get back into Thailand are finding it difficult to get Insurance & it?s costly.Ìý ÌýOld blokes kicking around 80 ?.basically 95% dead are also having difficulty passing Fit to fly tests.Ìý

A lot of changes coming in how retirees manage their affairs.

... possibly MUCH too long a diatribe here (which is not to say that you are wrong).
