mostly generic . which cost $10.00  for 90 pill like metformin and glimepiride
does any knows how they cost in Lisbon

Hi,

If you move to Portugal you can register at a health center, get appointments and and our national health system comparticipates those types of medication. Medication is generally not expensive.
I would however recommend having a health insurance since with the pandemic, it's even harder now to get appointment.

Best,

Susana

I would recommend having a health insurance, because otherwise one might have to wait for years to get e.g. surgery for a not life threatening issue. With my private insurance I never had to wait long for an appointment, especially for those with a specialist.
Alternatively, one can naturally also go to a private hospital and pay 100% out of the own pocket. That might be suitable for some, but not for me.

Hi don’t know about the meds that you are on but my fiancé is on a daily prescription that is priced at just under 70€ for 1 months supply but because we have our utente numbers (national health numbers) when we go to the chemist  with his prescription we get automatic discount & his medication comes down from 70€ to 20€.
Anybody with a utente number gets automatic discount, if you are on long term meds then wise to sort out your utente number, we did ours online just make sure when you are sorted & when you get your prescriptions that your utente number is on it.
Good luck
Jean

The question above is regarding the drug and not about health insurances or medical appointments ....

Fill in the search box:

Substância activa/DCI = metformin
(in portuguese: Metformina)

There are pack with 60 pills (max). Prices vary between 1,74 and 5,3 eur, without the need for reimbursement by the National Health Service ...  ;)

glimepiride - does not exist in Portugal

Susana Oliveira

Glimeprida is the portuguese designation. It's there in  several dosage.

Susana Oliveira

Sorry, Glimepirida.

Thanks for the link Johnny. I was able to find the equivalent for all our drugs, for when we finally make the move.

JohnnyPT

Thanks Susana for correcting the info about the second drug :)

The search on my link allows to search by the first letters of the drug's name. It may not work properly if you copy/paste the whole name, because the names in this search are in portuguese. The names are identical to english, but with slight differences.

Substância activa/DCI (Denominação Comum Internacional) =
Active substance (international name)

Susana, I think you sent me this reply by mistake. I'm Orlando, and you were going to send me some tax regulations. Regards.
