Leaving the island official admin info - Tax/Expatriate Section

I was told by both my Employer and the Inland Revenue support email contact that I needed to go to the Expatriate Section of the Inland Revenue Dept. (Block 3 in Floriana) with my FS3 in order to close out my Tax affairs in Malta before leaving. This is not the whole story. The Expatriate Section re-directed me to the Taxpayer Services section (Block 4, nearby, see the maps that are located on street corners amongst the Blocks) of the Inland Revenue Dept. so that I could complete a Tax Return first (makes sense but no-one had told me so I didn't factor it into my time allotted for the visit) - that involved a lengthy wait (an hour), though when I did get seen they were helpful and efficient and filled in my Tax Return for me...before sending me back to the Expatriate Section, which this time went smoothly. Total time about 90 minutes.

Also, the people at the Expatriate Section told me they are moving next week - I don't know to where.

Tomorrow we go to ARMS!

ARMS sorted - 2 hours, got there at 8AM to do a transfer of the meters from our name to the Landlord's name. FYI they are closed from tomorrow (18th August) for 10 days as they are moving offices. Also they no longer do photocopies of documents there (at least they have signs everywhere saying that - but for us they did).

It was nice to finally have a reasonable bill having been on the residential tariff for the last 5 months for the first time in our 20 months on the Island! In fact it was less than the deposit we gave them in April, so we will be getting a refund.

Tim, sorry to hear that your departing for pastures anew and that I won't get to talk 'irons' (and it's starting to look good, although very early in the season) ... anyhow, all the very best to you and the family and best wishes for the future.

All the best

Mike

Thanks Bev/Jim and everyone else - it's been an unforgettable 20 months (loads of wonderful people and great memories and a few bad ones, but never, ever dull) and we will certainly be back for visits and look you all up. Good luck to you all too - and watch out on the roads!

Au revoir
Tim
