Hi All

I have been head hunted for a position in Bahrain that comes with the following package. We are a family of 4 - 2ad 2ch (17 & 15) but the family wont join me until 15yo finishes school. Package is as below

Salary 3000BD per month Plus yearly bonus

Also provided by company

Housing (villa or apartment) plus services

Car

Flights (number unsure)

Medical insurance

2 x 21 days leave per year (not sure if these need to be taken all at once)

Is this a good package that will allow us to save money?

First time here so thanks in advance

As I always say, it is all relative.  It really depends on your lifestyle and what you want to do.

For an average person, 3000 bd sounds like a lot.  But I know people on double that who are struggling to make ends meet.

Now in your case, your accomodation/utilities/medical and car are sorted.  Your primary consideration is likely to be schooling, groceries, house help (maid if needed) and eating out.

Schooling is expensive.  The best international schools here are considered to be BSB, St. Chris and Riffa Views.   RV being the most expensive - I pay around 11/12K BHD a year for 2 kids (Grade 8 and Grade 2).   Expect to pay 5-6K per kid in higher grades in the cheaper schools and 8-10K in RV.  So you might end up spending 1000 BD per month, only for kids in school.........then add the after school activiites, trips, uniforms and so on.  Of course, if you make the choice to opt out of the top tier schools then it can go down drastically.

Eating out and groceries is dependent on how you manage your expenses.  I don't bother so my monthly grocery bill for a similar household (plus maid) is around 900 BHD and eating out around 500 BHD.  You can maximum cut either by half to still maintain a decent lifestyle.
